Not a bad price. The 160GB X25-M is only $419 shipped, so pretty much the same cost/GB.

Not everyone has the money, though, and this is still a little cheaper

Trust me, I regret spending the $200 on my 80GB that's in my desktop. I do like the performance, don't get me wrong, but not worth the cost. If the 80GB was $100 or less I'd say it's definitely worth it. But $419 can buy you a decent basic laptop. I'll look at SSD's again when they're ~$1.00 to $1.25 / GB.

I can't wait to jump on board with SSD BUT I can't justify the price ratio. So i'll wait till they are in the .50 per GB. It may take awhile but i'm willing to wait. :)

Agreed. I am not willing to spend $2+/GB when I could buy a 7200 RPM hard drive for like $0.25/GB

You won't see $1/GB until 2012 at the earliest, more like 2013.

    Sad, but true--

Or sell old stuff to fund the new stuff--

80GB just isn't enough or worth it, though.

Agreed it's almost pointless because the OS will take at least 10% of that unless you're using an eternal drive.

It was a joke, you used the term "eternal" instead of "external".... lol a drive that lasts forever.

SSD's are great but i can't afford a 200 gig sata 2 ssd for 688 performance is awesome but programs and games take up so much space today, i tried dealing with a 128 ssd in a m17x it was so difficult, but i can go back using an 7200RPM drive easily of course performance suffers but when your on a strict budget what can you do?

I really don't understand the recommendation of paying retail and Newegg. Newegg has shipped HDD and SSDs in nothing more than an envelope.

The risks are still there(and have to take the appropriate precautions of making backups), whether you buy a drive from Newegg or eBay.

I just got a Crucial 256GB SSD for $435 shipped from eBay. Yes, I am taking on risk, but I'd rather do that than be raped up front for another $200-300, with the illusion that my files are "safer".

Intel G3 starts at around $200 for 160 GB, (supposedly) but I expect prices will be considerably higher right after they come out.

When these vendors find a more efficient way of sucking money out of our pockets, then they just might lower the prices...

I hope one day RAM and storage are synonymous with one another--
