    1350 Cda after rebate

    - intel core duo T2400 1.86Ghz
    - 1GB RAM, 100 GB hard drive, DVD RW dual layer drive
    - built in web cam
    - nVIDIA GeForceGo 7600 521MB
    - carry bag and mouse

    Is it a good deal?
Should I upgrade to 2G RAM
Can the card handle relatively high settings for "oblivion" and "HL2"??

    Thanks in advance

It can handle all the settings you'll throw at it with HL2. Oblivion may be played at relatively high settings.

This is also variable to whether you get the 2G of ram

Frankly, I recommend you getting an A8JS or something with a core 2 duo, if its budgetable for you.

Yeah, it should of been real nice to have core 2 duo 2Ghz, 2 G ram, and Geforce 7700, but I dont really have the luxury at the moment LOL.

That's actually cheaper than the price at www.newegg.com right now ($1199 USD). Sounds reasonable. Remember that not everyone can get a A8jp or A8js. The A8jm is still a very capable notebook.

Canada usually has higher prices on notebooks than the US, so I'd consider it to be a good deal. Remember though it only has a Core Duo CPU, not a Core 2 Duo, so it will not be able to run 64 bit apps.

    well the a8js you get

    7700 go vs 7600
    1440 x 900 screen vs 1280 x 800
    sata hd vs ide
    t7200 2.0 ghz 64 bit vs t2400 1.83 ghz 32 bit

also 2 year warrantee vs 1 year
    free carrying case and mouse.

Thats worth 300 usd at least.

not many real advantage to go sata rather than ide in notebooks so thats not a valid reason

you can argue that NOTHING out there right now really NEEDs 64 bit. very few 64 bit programs or optimized programs out there. there are quite a bit of programs not working on vista let alone 64 bit vista.

and things up here in canada are costly

300 usd = almost 370 CAD not to mention you probably can't get a a8js for less then 1800 CAD (not including tax)

a8jm seems like very good deal, and a8js seems like a great deal for such little price differece. But I am sure my computer works wont require such delicate system. Also, I heard that Core 2 duo is about 15% faster than Core, and only able to see the difference if running some heavy program. The higher resolution probably wont be noticeable on such small screen, tho I haven't actually given chance to compare with bare eye. Better graphic card is nice, but I am more than satisfied if I can play oblivion even at medium setting, I have played the predecessor on xbox and it was great with tremedous depth and freedom!

By the way, I got it today for 1415, apparently the rebate was expired (which I think it's a lame way to lure customers), I showed the flyer to other retailer, which gave me for 1415, I am still HAPPY!

A8Js is about 1650 Cda (but it's according to the same old flyer from "Canada Computers" that gave me false expecation, who knows how truthful it is now? Apparently, laptop price can actually go up after a month, well at least, I am learning something new)
