It's $130 CAD ...that's $101 US for comparison sake.

Very good deal. They run about ~$190.

That's all the assurance I need. I'm buying it!

I have the Office Edition of this, but for all intensive purposes the same product. It is a great external drive. Had an initial format to NTFS issue, but that was quickly resolved with the help of tech support. It has exceptional transfer speeds for being USB only, but you can always tear out the drive and pop it into another case. The drive itself runs almost $100, so heck ya, jump on it. One word of advice, make sure to get a copy of the receipt and send it to Western Digital to update the warranty from date of manufacture to date of purchase. This will help to extend the period.

Not to make this a thread about language, but ...
I don't mean to offend anyone it bugs me any time, no matter who says it. Much like when people go "Here, here" instead of "Hear, hear", when they agree and/or applaud something said. The "Here, here" should of course be responded to by asking "Where, where?"
Anyway, on to my real reason for posting in this thread:
I had one of "those". Well, I had two of something that looked like that, except it had a ring on the front (don't know which series that is?).
Coming home after having bought one for both me and my girlfriend, we tested them out. Mine seemed to work, but my gf's didn't show up on her computer. We tested mine on her's which did work, and then her's on mine. It still didn't work.
A couple of hours later the back-up of my lappie to the just bought external seemed to stall, so I let it do what it does for the night.
Apparently the drive was a teenager, because the next day it had done absolutely nothing. It was still on a break, and to make matters worse, the system had frozen. I had to pull everything.
After work, I went to the shop and told them what had happened. The clerk asked me to try another because he hadn't heard of such bad luck. I swapped on of them for another, and tried it in the store. It wouldn't mount, no matter what we did. Then we tested it on a PC (I'm not a macuser for much longer) and it still wouldn't mount.
Suffice to say, with my luck I avoid WD's like, well, VD's -
Interesting viewpoint, but would the following hold truth?
Thus [pertaining to a concentrated factor] [reason for which anything is done] my version, which is of the same model series, is alike. Not sure if I am not following your idea. If anything, it is an overstatement as intensive would not be needed to explain purpose, as the word is, itself, shows importance. Wouldn't saying "for all intents and purposes" change the meaning of describing how the two are alike. When you say 'for all' it says that everything is included in reference to intents and purposes. Instead, I was denoting strictly the primary use of the drive, not all of the specific features pertaining to my version as compared to this standard version. I am not an English major nor am I stating almighty understanding, just playing 2 A.M.'s devil's advocate. By the way, I believe your second reference dates back to the days of 'Old English' and has not been generally revised, as you have stated, in current times. It's context, I guess, would be the most important factor.
In reference to the drives, this is a newer series, but all hard drives seem to have their horror stories. I have since scrapped my older WD My Book (series with front circular button) due to its ability to 'misplace' my files, similar to your experience. -
Dang so many nice deals these days, I got screwed last month and bought a 300gb for like $130, I need this!!

If I were the kind of person who felt the need to correct grammar in a public forum, I could find plenty of grammatical problems with your own post.
Quite frankly, I find your claim of being a journalist suspect, but, then again, anybody who writes for ANY periodical, with a circulation in excess of one, could, ostensibly, CLAIM to be a journalist. -
The deal on the WD 1TB is a good one.
The best "brick and mortar" store deal I have found on these drives is $99.99 at Frys.
I have three of these drives and find them to be great. -
That doesn't seem like a good deal to me, the pricing looks standard. Especially since you have to count tax. Amazon has it for 117.99$, and if I recall on special sales like Black Friday they are common for 99$ or less.
-
Here's another one for the Canadian's! http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...665000FS10119807&catid=23795&logon=&langid=EN

Amazon.com has it for $118 US.
Amazon.ca has it for $167.50 CAD.
Fry's currently has it for $150 US.
Plus shipping is only $5 so that's a huge plus. -
But yeah, this is in the states and not in Canada. Tigerdirect.ca has it for around the same price as Bestbuy.ca, shipping is probably cheaper too, check for yourself by estimating postal code.
Keep in mind that these are standard prices, and not big sales. -

I need a 1TB+ HDD bad myself and have been on the lookout for another $99 1TB deal. It can be internal but external may work better since its going to be a backup drive.
Id get a 1.5 or 2TB drive but I am kind of affraid of the higher than normal failure rates (and the 1TB seem to be in there some too) -

Failure rates? Wow thats new i never hear about that. I guess its hard to hold on that space.

When I bought three a few weeks ago at a local Frys store, they had stacks of them on Friday and by Sunday almost all were gone.
Frys.com can be hard to dig through, sometimes, but I have found that it is often worth the effort.
Another interesting thing is that sometimes Frys.com will say that a deal is "online only," but I have been able to set up the purchase as "store pickup," yet when I go to the store, the item is the same price as I paid.
Other times, the store price is different from the online price and you must purchase online for store pickup if you want to get the deal AND get it in-store. I have asked them to honor the online price before and they don't seem to willing to cooperate.
So, I go out to the parking lot. Order the item on my iPhone and go back in and pick it up at the lower price.
And just to make it all even more confusing, sometimes there are "in-store" specials which don't show on the website.
All part of the fun shopping at Frys.
Is this a good deal on WD 1TB external?
