    Hello,

I am just starting to shop around for a notebook. I would like to spend less than $1000, as I am a student. However, I need/want at least 60 GB hard drive, 512 MB of memory, and at least a Pentium chip. I am having much difficulty finding a notebook that meets these specs within my $1000 range. Should I just wait and see if prices start coming down, or am I S.O.L. ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks![:I]

    hello,

You're certainly not out of luck, with rebates and other deals it's totally reasonable to get a notebook with a good configuration for under $1000. If you drop the requirement for a Pentium M chip, then Averatec is a good company to find some real bargains for notebooks that have 512MB RAM, and 80GB hard drives

examples of laptops that you might want to look at:

    Inspiron 600m:

Check our front page for the latest deals and Dell coupon codes so you can knock the price down further!

I agree with abaxter, if you drop the Pentium M chip requirement, you can get more choices out there. I think the best deal right now is still the emachine 5405 at best buy. For possibly up to 499 after 400 best buy rebates and 100 emachine rebates, this machine seem to fit all your description with the memory and hard drive, with the only exception being the AMD Sempron, which is still a class above any celeron out there and not much behind any regular Pentium 4 either. Other good choices would include Averatec and HP/Compaq as well as Toshiba. Good Luck

Thanks for all the advice. I am trying to decide between the Dell Inspiron 5160 and the Toshiba A75-S209. I guess I will just wait now to see which one comes down under $1000 first.
