Wow, Kingston is really pushing for the $1/GB. They aren't the fastest, but an overall good performer, and worlds better than any HDD.

Picked up one of these a month or so ago from a newegg special.
This drive has quite high power usage (1W idle, 6.4W active!), and I was worried about the heat in a notebook (put it in old HP 14' which doesn't have best cooling).
Generates about the same heat as the original hard drive, so not as bad as I expected. Just don't expect it to be like a SSD which has idle of 0.1W!
Cheap and cheerful upgrade for old laptop, though haven't seen any reduced heat/extension of battery life like you would get with a premium SSD. -
wow 1w iddle 6.4w active that's monstruous my 96 Gb v+100 gas a idle of 0.2 and active of 3.2

I know the SNV425 series were power hogs, but didn't realize V100 was as well.

The V100+ uses a completely different controller. I would have gotten one, but its overly aggressive built-in garbage collection is a bit of a turn-off. Good if you own a Mac, not so much for Windows. -
I own one of the V+ ones and not sure how the aggressive GC is detrimental other than possibly more power use. From my testing it wasn't a whole lot worse than my Intel and about on par with the WD Caviar Blue 5400RPM HDD.

This whole business of NAND wearing out is still to be seen. I can't recall a single incidence of the NAND failing before a controller does. I think the whole NAND wear is greatly exaggerated and a worse case scenario. 3 years for a drive in this day and age is a long time for technology. I probably wouldn't use this drive that got a lot of write usage, and for me it's in my ULV notebook that will see minimal writes, so I'm far from concerned.
Although I'm not quite sure what is meant by "aggressive GC". If you write to your drive, either TRIM and SSD firmware will clean up or it will do it on its own, so in either case, cells will be cleared and written to whether immediately or at a later time. -
Bought one of the 64GB for use in my 6-battery Acer Aspire One netbook. I'll be sure run a battery time test with the standard hard drive vs the SSD to see how the power usage of the V100 affects it. Right now it runs about 5.5 hours surfing over the wi-fi.

I know there is a little truth to that because my sister is a photographer and recently "wore out" her SD card. She was frustrated and said she can't write to her SD card any more, but could read the ones on there. I could write a small file to it, and that's it. Figured it finally died. -

heck with winodws the overly agressive GC has little to nothing to do after a little time simply because once trim enabeled it should stop messing around because ther won't be much if any garbage left to move
