Yeah. Super gone.
-
Super duper gone...
-
And back in stock!
-
Wow, I can't believe I got it. The idle power draw on this drive is the best. This also means my Vertex 2 is going up for sale soon.
-
That is SOOOO tempting.
-
-
Doesn't look like it'll tear up any benchmarks, but if you're looking for idle power draw, which is what most users will want unless you do LOTS of read/writes, this seems to be the king. Also seems to be good for older or alternate OS's that don't support TRIM since it has excellent internal garbage collection. Sounds like it weighs more than most SSD's though due to it's stamped steel housing. Would be great for ULV notebooks or netbooks, primarily for the battery life, if you are fine with a few extra oz's from the stamped steel housing. I may actually get this for my M11x.
Here's a good review:
Kingston SSDNow V+100 Review (96GB) | StorageReview.com -
That's exactly what I'm wanting to do. Oddly enough, my Vertex has crippled write speeds in the Lenovo X120e. This also happened in my VAIO YB, so I think it's related to AMD E-350.
If the Kingston isn't crippled, I'll actually get faster speeds than the current Vertex 2. Oh yeah, longer battery life, more total capacity, lower price per/gig is also part of that as well. -
Yeah, those Atom-like CPU's will bottleneck any system. I put an Intel SSD in my Dell Mini only because I upgraded my PC SSD, but it seems like such a waste because it can't take advantage of the performance. This SSD is perfect. May actually put it in my kids' entertainment PC because I'm tired of the slow 5400RPM HDD in there any time I want to fire up the web or a video for them.
-
They raised the price $10 while I was sitting on my laurels trying to make a decision. But have a 15% off SSD coupon that may have to make use of then.
-
i hate you us guys lol as usual not availible in canada
but 149$ is holy tempting when are the 1TB normal hdd suposed to apear i may not resis if they are comming any time soon -
My drive arrives tomorrow. Can't wait.
EDIT: Back in stock 8:30pm PST 5/23. -

If you are a "new customer" you can save an additional $10 on this by using this code: NEWCUSTOMER10.
Also check your e-mails to see if you received a e-mail from Newegg. Would start out "A Ton Of Thanks". There is a unique code, only for those that received the e-mail that you can save 10% off components with the code -
-
I'll post benchies tomorrow in my X120e compared to my Vertex 2. My post office has my drive but they wanted to hold on to it for one more day. Oh well. At least my Phenom arrived.
-
Would fit well in my netbook. Currently has an Intel 80GB but would like to use that somewhere else.
-
But, it's works great for purchases like this one.
-
Still out of stock, but they do have the desktop version for $10 more.

Still $94 for a 96GB is a good deal ($160-10%-$50MIR). I guess if the bare drive doesn't come back in stock soon I'll get the desktop version. -
Well, I ended up ordering the desktop kit for $10 more because bare drive never came back in stock. But the desktop kit comes with a USB enclosure which is quite nice. I can make use of that, plus needed another 3.5" adapter bracket anyhow for a drive in my WHS that's loosely fitted at the moment. Still for < $1/GB, excellent deal.
-
Those jerkfaces at USPS have had my drive for two days now. Newegg's budget shipping says estimated shipping is 5 days or so. I guess the USPS thinks it's necessary to delay my order on purpose.
It's too bad we don't have a common fund to make purchases for each other when these deals popup. It'd be like crowd sourcing in a way. If one person wins the lottery, we all get in on the deal. A pro-active Groupon, if you will.
$10 is really a pittance. It's a McDonald's value meal. But I also have this irrational way of thinking when it comes to computer purchases. If I don't get the best deal ever, I feel screwed. Like the one sole reviewer on the 96GB drive. 1 out of 17 people liked his review. HAHA. -
Well, my problem is that I keep spending when I have no money to spend!
I keep ebaying stuff to help ease the financial burden, but I guess that's my own undoing.
I'm the same with with most tech purchases. I get irritated when I can't get rock bottom pricing on things. Or when I go to look for something, it costs a lot more than I think it should. I think I owe Cin' a drink or twelve for the amount of deals she's found for me and money saved.
There's 16 reviews of the desktop kit version that all rate it quite highly.

edit: whoa, both drives jumped up $50 this morning! -
Okay, I got it. I cloned it. It works like I hoped. It's a tad heavier than the Vertex 2. It's got HEX screws that can be easily taken apart with a Torx T6 or similar. Unfortunately, there's an easily destroyed "warranty void if removed" sticker on one of the HEX screws. I'm tempted, but not yet.
My sequential writes are back to normal. This is either an AMD E-350 problem or an OCZ/Sandforce problem.
WEI numbers are lower than the Vertex II. Also, notice QD32 numbers are also lower. Vertex will probably be faster even with the crippled sequential writes.
Though, I love the 0.2watts at idle. I'll update with changes in battery performance.
-
Sugarkang: What program did you use to clone the drive? Acronis? Something else?
-
Try a different solution if you can. -
Any update on power consumption? Looking to possibly jump on this today if you post!

I just let my notebook idle all night. Kingston is in. Battery lasted over 9 hours. Mind you, I did absolutely nothing with the notebook except move the mouse when the screen went dim so as to prevent sleep.
Now, that said, I think it might be eating up a little more energy. I had to up the voltage from my prior aggressive undervolts. That makes sense, though. Kingston is supposed to idle at low watts but eats a lot of energy because of extreme garbage collection. Still, I didn't have to change my lowest P state, where the notebook usually stays anyway.
I think you'll have a power hit if you're constantly doing disk reads/writes. If you're just browsing the net, there should be no difference vs. say a Vertex 2, like I had before. Power should still be a smidge better than a mechanical. I like the drive and it was a good purchase.
A tad heavy and wish I could just rip the cover apart, but whatever. The 256GB versions would be supreme in a RAID 0 config, though I'd use that in my desktop. -
Thanks SugarKang. I'll do a test too when I get mine, granted will be too late for the rebate. I only get about 5 to 5.5 hours with my Intel 80GB currently in my ULV notebook (which only claims max 6 hrs anyhow). Will see how this SSD does.
One good test is to, well, turn off sleep, and then use something like ReloadEvery Firefox add-on to have it refresh web pages at fixed or random intervals to simulate at least some web activity.
