Looks like they extended the $75 MIR offer. Wonder if not too many people took them up on it the first time, and they still need to clear out their stock.

I have to say, prior to ordering when this deal first came online, the last time I ordered from Buy.com was more than 10 years. It was an unmitigated disaster. The product was slow to ship, it was next to impossible to contact them, and ultimately returning the product proved to be an absolute nightmare.

From this last experience, it appears they've righted the ship. My order was processed and shipped within 24 hours, and an e-mail question I sent to their customer service was answered promptly and in a friendly manner.

If you're not squeamish about mail-in rebates, and don't care about battery life on your notebook (this Kingston is a big drain), get in on this deal.

I have been lurking on this forums for over a year now and find this site very informative.

Of all the poor timing, I just ordered an

OCZ Agility 2 OCZSSD2-2AGTE120G 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

from newegg. The product has shipped already and my question is, should I order this and return the OCZ? Is there a huge performance between the two? Also, I always keep my laptop hooked up to an outlet.

Dont worry about it too much. It is not a case of bad timing.

Keep the OCZ Agility 2. It is a fantastic drive, with great speeds and price/capacity. It is in a whole different league of performance than the Kingston V-Series. You shouldn't get rid of your Ferrari just bexause you can get a good deal on a Toyota Camry.

Not to mention this drive is a power hog compared to Intel or the Sandforce drives (OCZ Agility 2 / Vertex 2). Maybe that doesn't matter though.

I was just wondering about that. Thinking of getting one for my thinkpad tablet, but the 5.2W power consumption seems high. Anyone know how this drive fares with battery life?

If you're comparing a typical mechanical HDD (0.5W idle, 2.5W load) to the Kington V-series SSD (1.5W idle, 2.5W / 4.5W load for read/write), then you're probably looking at a 10% drop in battery life. If your battery typically lasts 3 hours, you can expect about a 20 minute drop.

That's probably the biggest drawback of this drive. It is otherwise an excellent value drive, especially if the $125 USD price is still valid.

Yeah, I put one in my desktop where power consumption isn't critical. Great drive.

Thanks for the reply. Too bad then, guess I'll wait for newer drives to go on sale.

The case functions exactly like a typical USB enclosure. It's not designed to accommodate the SSD. If what I undestand from Kingston is correct, you plug your current hard drive into the case, then install the SSD in your notebook and run the cloning software from there. Once that's done, you would use your old hard drive like a Western Digital Passport.

Yeah, Windows will detect it no problem. Just like any other USB device.

Thanks guys. That made me buy it. Considering its also cheap and I don't care much about the power usage.
