NewEgg is selling the LG 34UM95 for $500, today only. It's the original "awesome" 34" ultrawide (3440x1440) 21:9 aspect ratio ultrawide monitor.

If you haven't used one of these before, you're in for a mindblowing experience. It's FAR better than upgrading from 1440p --> 4K. I'd equate it to the level of awesome as going from 56K dial-up to broadband, or a mechanical HDD --> SSD for the first time.
Everyone who reviews this monitor loves it (literally. I have yet to find one negative review). Jump on this deal. It's too good to pass up.

Edit: For those doing research, you'll also find much cheaper ultrawide monitors (without sale) that are 29" and 34" 2560x1080 resolution. My opinion is that you do NOT want those monitors due to the low pixel density. They are inferior-spec monitors that sell on low-price. A 34" 1080p-ultrawide would be the equivalent pixel density of a 27" 1080p 16:9 monitor.

Link please? I don't see that LCD for $500 on Newegg. If it were G-sync I might bite.
-
Just FYI... for games that do support 21:9, you get a far more immersive experience than 16:9. In a game like League of Legends, you can see more of the map, almost to an unfair advantage. If you're in top or bottom lane, you can see "more" of the river, and get visual warning of a gank (rather than relying solely on minimap)
For games that do NOT support 21:9, you simply set the in-game resolution to 2560x1440. The image displays in exactly the same dimensions and physical size as a 27" 1440p display. You can think of this as a 27" 1440p display with extra screen on the sides.
For productivity use, this is ridiculous. A lot of people are replacing their dual-monitor setups with ultrawide, It's essentially two 5:4 monitors side-by-side, without the bezel in the middle. For work, I commonly have a content application open on the left (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc), and a web browser on the right for research purposes. -
Thanks for link. I am SOOO tempted, but want G-sync. But those monitors are $1200 for 21:9. I really do want widescreen for productivity too. Gah, what to do, what to do.
-
HTWingNut: Link added. Thanks for catching that.
G-Sync 34" ultrawide cost about twice the price of a non G-Sync model, such as the Acer Predator X34 ($1200-$1300). This monitor SHOULD cost around $700-$750 street price, but this NewEgg sale drops that down to $500. -
I say this:
If you want it, $500 is too good to pass up. You're not going to see this price for another 12-18 months, when the natural market price of these types of monitors drops down to that level.
When that happens, the natural price of 34" ultrawide G-Sync displays will also drop from $1300, down to around $700-$800 (I'm predicting). At that time, if you want G-Sync, either sell this monitor for about $300, or give it away to a very lucky friend or relative. You're paying $200 depreciation to use this monitor for 12-18 months.
That might sound like a lot of work to some people. But I know you, HTWingNut. We both are willing to pay money and do stupid crazy things to get that "holy-cow-everything-is-awesome" feeling of playing with tech toys. -
I have a 2560x1440 Asus 27" G-sync. I bought it waiting for 21:9 G-sync LCD's to become readily available and drop in price. I'd feel silly to buy this too, but I'm tempted. It's either G-sync TN 144Hz 16:9 or IPS 60Hz 21:9. Wonder if this monitor can be overclocked to 75Hz at least.
edit: quick search shows limited success in OC. But hard to pass this up. My credit card is going to ache. -
Ok. If you are the kind of person that either uses multi-monitor, or finds single-monitor 16:9 horizontally cramped, then you really do need to get an ultrawide display. In my previous post, I mentioned 2 windows side-by-side.
I'm posting a screenshot of what a 3-window arrangement would look like. Save this attachment, and open it at 100% scaling, so you can get an idea of how much content I get on the screen... all uncramped, easy to read, etc.
Hope I convert you in the next 17 hours!

Thanks @kent1146 , I think I will jump on it. Problem is at this price the fleabay wolves will probably gobble these up in no time and resell them for $200-300 profit each.

I don't know how long ago you bought your 27" G-Sync display... but there are also 27" 1440p 144Hz IPS displays out now too... unfortunately also for about $750-$800, like the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q.
In an attempt to convert you to Ultrawide, let me do a pros / cons:
Pros:
++ Productivity: Superior productivity use
++ Gaming: High level of immersion
++ Gaming: Falls back to 27" 2560*1440 if game doesn't support ultrawide
++ General: IPS panel gives superior colors & viewing angles.
Cons:
-- Gaming: No G-Sync. May introduce screen tearing and/or Vsync lag (depending on Vsync on/off). -
Enjoy your new toy! Hope you love it!
Sorry for doing terrible, terrible things to your wallet.

Haha. lol. Yeah, seems I'm an early adopter with this, so growing pains you know? I may mount my G-sync above the 21:9 for ultimate screen immersion. I was planning on doing that if/when I bought a 21:9 G-sync display. 90% of my screen time is doing productivity stuff, and while my Asus G-sync is nice it's still TN, and miss my IPS... That's why I wanted a 21:9 IPS G-sync panel. Best of all worlds, just guess I'm not ready to fork over $1400 and it seems that the Acer X34 (what I have my eyes on) has some bad light bleed issues among other things.
-
Totally understand if you want to keep your GSync panrl.
Not to complicate things further... But wouldn't mounting that monitor above the ultrawide give off-axis viewing problems? I thought that even this latest generation of TN panel still had vertical off-axis color shift.

If you already have your own VESA mount or brackets, this monitor takes a 100x100 VESA bracket, and weighs 17.2 pounds. You'll need a DisplayPort cable to connect to it.Last edited: Jan 19, 2016 -
Thanks. Yep, have a DP cable and a VESA mount already for my Asus monitor that I will use for this, and get another to mount the Asus above this LG.

I actually prefer having two somewhat smaller UXGA monitors as opposed to having one larger one, but heck of a deal if you like that sort of thing.
-
Why would you want two smaller monitors, instead of one larger one that pretty much occupies the same pixel count?

And this particular monitor allows you two inputs simultaneously to treat it as two screens if you like, and also can split it into four separate segments to act as four screens if you like (from same PC).
I'm beginning to wish I had bought two now, lol. -
Lol. Looks like someone got next-day shipping.
Take some pics once you get it set up and properly mounted; and tell me what you think! -
My wall mount bracket winks over the power plug hole and the DisplayPort hole.I emailed the company for the wall mount arm to see if they have a smaller bracket I can use otherwise I'll have to take it to the band saw.
I actually am looking for a dual articulating bracket so I can easily move one monitor over or under the other one as I see fit. Initial 3D gaming views though, I can notice the tearing horribly. But I see there are some game and response time settings that I'll have to fuss with.
I tried to OC, but it won't OC at all. -
I just wanted to say that I love this screen. I would like a 100Hz G-sync version, but the Acer X34 is more or less unavailable for a while, so this will have to do.
-
I think it's only after using a 21:9 screen, that you realize how awesome it is; and why it beats the pants off of 4K displays.

I like the single LCD. This one especially with the option to use it like two different LCD's. Not the best for gaming, but great for productivity.
