    Are those value correct?
    "# 8x maximum write speed (CD-R)
    # 8x maximum rewrite speed (CD-RW) "

    That seems awfully slow...

Most laptop drives are slow at burning.

I think that's actually about normal for notebook drives.

Can these be used on any laptop that has an IDE dvd drive ?
Eg., can it be used on thinkpads ? Like T43/42 ?

Yes, the only issue you may run into is bezel compatibility.

While it should work on a DV9000 (anything prior to the Montevina on HP), it won't work on the T42/T43. They use slimmer drives, and the interface appears to be different (couldn't get it working on my R60)

While the slimmer drive thing may be true (I don't actually know), I know that the interface isn't different, it's just got an adapter on it.

Wow, what a great deal. There was another online deal store that was selling these at $99 if my memory serves me correctly. I think at $50 (ish) I will take the plunge. For all those prospective buyers, you may want to do a quick search for that thread as there was a couple users that bought one and posted up.

I am guessing this drive is pata?

I am trying to see if the HP HDX series optical drive is sata or pata
so I would know if this drive is compatible. Anyone know off the top
of their head if it is?
