Just saw this deal over at SlickDeals and I popped into Office Depot for two of these (one for the parents, one for the brother-in-law).

At the store, these are priced at $399.99:
Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 1024 3VU Laptop Computer With 156 LED Backlit Screen 2nd Gen Intel Core i3 2310M Processor With 4 Way Multi Tasking by Office Depot

Office Depot accepts competitors' coupons (provided they are a local competitor). Staples currently has this coupon (good til 12/17):
    Staples.comĀ® | StaplesĀ® Coupons

I walked into my local Office Depot (with my wife) and asked if they would honor the coupon - the manager didn't seem too happy that we were walking out with 2 laptops without purchasing their McAfee AV, their extended warranty or their "PC Optimization" service - but he followed store policy and honored the Staples coupon. With IL tax, they were $383 and change each.

The only hitch is that you have to have a Staples locally - as their policy states they only have to match local competitors. Otherwise, the tag should read $399.99 - I think this is a steal even at that price...

^ Upgrading the CPU might be more trouble than it's worth - for that, I might just spend an extra $100 or so on the laptop.

This is more for people just looking for a very decent "budget" laptop (clearly, this isn't the top choice for gaming).

Very very nice deal if it's still available.

If you need a CPU and memory upgrade, you should be looking at a different laptop. 4GB of RAM and an i3 are more than overkill for the everyday (read: non-gamer) user.

Good deal. You might run into the problem though that Staples doesn't carry the Z570. That is an issue, and a hard sell whenever you go someplace like Best Buy, Staples, Home Depot. They want to sell you their AV and/or warranty because that's where all the money is, especially after accepting a competitor's $50 coupon!

I bought a base laptop for someone I found at Best Buy and they almost wouldn't let me go without buying AV or warranty.

Hard to beat under $400 for any laptop with an Intel i3/i5.

This laptop is a great deal, and I myself like walking into stores and taking advantage of them :)
