I just recently entered the market for a laptop and I have been looking very seriously at the Lenovo brand. I check the site every day and it seems that they are always having some sort of sale atleast lately. Is this typical of Lenovo? Or is it just a Mother's Day thing?

Very typical. When one coupon ends another starts. I've used 30%+ coupons in the past. Gotta wait for the good ones.

'Sales' tend to give the illusion that you are saving more many than you would have otherwise. It gives the consumer a sense of urgency to buy the product. So why not bump up the price a bit and have a slash at it if not for strategy. Sometimes there truly are great deals, but you have to be well researched in the common prices (and used eBay prices too.) At the bare minimum a froogle search should serve you well.
