Consumer grade quad core off the shelf. $1300.

There is a gateway out there for the same price with a GTX 260...
But I think both will have overheating problems. -

Oops , my Mistake

I think it's quite amazing to be able to offer this type of technology at these prices. Especially when I had read articles (about a year ago) saying that quad core in a laptop, for the average consumer, was a long ways off.

Lol even a year ago, Sager made laptops with the Q6600 in them

)
Edit: This is also the first time I've seen a quad core laptop on display anywhere (off the shelf-not custom order), and as such is worth taking note of. -
This is a mobile quad-core, different story. -
WOW! GTX 260M, 6GB DDR2. I'm curious though, is the memory tri-channel (3x2GB)? Or three slots of DDR2, and can you get dual-channel out of that?
-
no its 1x4gb and 1x2gb...
-
I'm surprised they didn't opt for a 320GB 7200RPM HDD instead of 500GB 5400RPM though.
Dang, I'm tempted to sell my P-7811fx (and a few other things - thanks eBay) and go buy this one. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate

If these bozos had any sense they would have quad core 32 bit chips for around the same price as dual core 64 bit chips. Give me a dual core running linux they figured out how to use multiple processsors decades before microsoft.
-
Also you can speed up your system cheaper using a solid state drive.
