I haven't kept up with the times regarding mouses, I'm perfectly happy with my cheapo Intellimouse, really.

But I have one question - don't these cordless mouses require some kind of USB receiver hub to translate the signals from the mouse itself, or has technology moved passed that and have the wi-fi card in the laptop or whatever translate the signal, negating the use of a USB hub?

What you sound like you want Syntax is a bluetooth mouse.

Since most modern notebooks come with or have the option for internal bluetooth.

Wireless tho will still require some kind of additoinal transmiter/reciever that usually plugs into a usb port.

I am debating taking advantage of this sale... I need a wirless mouse and I dont think it gets much better than the G7.. I just dont know what I will do with it missing the 2 buttons the MX518 has, the 2nd side button wich is needed to do forward/back for web browsing, or in games I usually set one for prone and one for duck. and the middle button wich is stock for application swich I use the software and remap it to application close.

this is super handy for closing windows, closing a frozen program, or say closing certian kinds of movies before sombody walks into the room :p

So I used those buttons and alot, but really hate the idea of using a corded mouse with my notebook.

What's better? Cordless or corded for intensive gaming?

you can tilt the mousewheel left and right to make up for the "foward" and "back" buttons found on your MX518.

I'd go for corded (like the G5 which has custom weights) because you dont have to take out batteries and switch them or worry about losing them. i however love cordless and cannot stand my MX510's cord lol.

Thats an idea, I dont like tilting mouse wheels much, I know alot of gamers loath them but atleast once I get used to it I can keep the same kind of functions. I guess id have to bind the side key to application close then.

I ordered my mouse on July 4, shipped on July 5, and got it on July 6 with the free shipping. Also, the color scheme I got was the carbon fiber/dark blue one, not the silver/teal color.

I don't really like using wireless mouses, I prefer corded ones, such as my G5 haha.
