For $1,700 you can get a brand freakin new Alienware M17x complete with a 680M and the 1080p screen... from Costco?

    Alienware M17X Laptop Intel® Core

Seem legit enough to you folks? It's all over the place at Overclock.net, where I usually am, and I figured I would run this buy you all first.

I configured a m17x R4 machine with i7-3610qm and 7970m, 8gb ram, full-hd screen for 1800$ discounted 25% to 1400$ on the dell outlet last night, so yea, the machine you found looks totally doable.

That is outlet, not brand new. For $1,700 with a 1080p screen and GTX 680m is a great deal if it's brand new. You buy that from Alienware is $2,200, starts at $1,500 base then $150 for 1080p and $550 for GTX 680m for a total of $2,200 and when you get lucky to haggle upto 20-25% then you'll be down around $1,750-1,800 then you have to pay state sales tax.

So for $1,700 brand new with gtx 680 and 1080p grab it!!

Exactly. $1700 is a fair price for a MSI or Sager with a 680M from resellers, but you won't find an Alienware for that price anywhere else.

I have suspicions that it is a typo from Costco as pointed out in the Overclock.net thread, and it should read 660M. But only one way to find out

Thank you sooo much for posting this deal. I have been wanting to get one for a while now and this is a great deal. ordered one !!! As far as the Costco thing goes they stand behind what they sell bigtime, and you also get an extra one year warranty when you purchase anything from them. I had a problem once with a TV we had purchased through them and they did a three way call with the TV people and it was taken care of promptly. They sent a guy to my house and bam new TV problem taken care of! The Costco company values their customers and really do listen to input and feedback from us. I have always had a great experience with them and their customer service.

    Thanks again!!

Soon to be Alienware laptop owner!

LOL 660m or 680m.... My thought is it's 660m also. All those people that get these laptops that will be underwhelmed by its performance will be like  Too bad many people won't even know to verify what GPU they have.

The good thing about the organization is the 90 day return policy. So, if it is not as advertised it's going back. And I should hope at this day and age people can verify their GPU ;)

Believe it or not, ask any layman what GPU is in their machine and they'll say 2GB or GeForce or something silly like that, not GTX 680m... that is if they even know what you mean by "GPU".

They all look shocked when they realize I'm talking about laptop, as if it's the worst thing imaginable.

Not sure yet, have not received it. They stated a preliminary ship date of 10-12 business day for delivery that represents the processing time and the time it takes to custom build the computer. I will post as soon as I get mine in. I think there is a few others that ordered as well so we will all be getting them about the same time probably.

I am in the same boat as naadra. I spoke to two different customers service reps (who probably have the same information as I do) to verify the GPU and they both stated that this a custom build for Costco (hence the wait time) and their is no distinct model number for the item. I have done some research and found an Alienware laptop for the same price, however the GPU is the 660.

It is just a waiting game now.

Not sure what makes it a "special build" other than rock bottom pricing on the machine if it's truly a 680m.

I think it is a special order that is bulk...I think that is what they ment. They made a special agreement on a build to sell

Right, but not sure how that can save like $800 per unit. Labor is the same, they still have to build them, it's no different if it has 660m or 680m in it.

Ya I started to do the config on alienwares site and it was over $2500 before taxes and warranty etc. So that is an easy $800 off the price at $1699, so that is almost 30 percent off. Good deal in my book hehe!

Although you can buy a Sager NP9150 with same config (and better LCD) for the same price (~ $1700) even without a serious discount.

That was the other laptop I was considering (actually it was the 9370 single gpu). Besides the matte screen, I also wanted the Blu-Ray drive. I was honestly considering buying both and sending back the one I did not like.

Must be a legit deal. Dell Outlets is offering a 30% discount coupon on a factory refurbished (but with full warranty) M17xR4 with a 680m 2 gig with 2 x 256 ssd 16 gig ram for $2509. With discount it would be about $1750. Have to admit, I'm tempted.

Mr. at the Joe Red Wing fan (I won't hold it against you :D), I've been reading most of your reviews and such, very impressive. Could you tell me the difference between the Sager NP9150 and the NP9370? Seems they can be both pretty much be configured in the same manner, so I'm wondering ... what's the difference in the two models?

(Excuse me for butting in :D) From what I can tell, going off of HTWingNut's research and reviews is SLi/CrossFire capability and lack of Enduro and Optimus. However, I am sure HT has more information than that.

I tried to get that deal on the 17R4 with the dual SSD config, 680, etc from the outlet and I got an error at checkout and talked to a rep, they told me 17R4s were not eligible for the 30 percent off, only the R3s :( I argued with them about it, they had the R4 listed right under the 30% deal thing on their own web page and that advertisement link is what took me to the R4. They stated no sorry R4s not eligible, I was a little upset to say the least lol it was one heck of a deal. I sent in an email as well trying after talking to someone at the outlet to get the deal. No go :(

Wrong... You get a 1 year Warranty from Dell for manufacturers warranty, and you also get a second year warranty through Costco. Read the fine print.

....Costco extends the manufacturer's warranty on Televisions, Projectors & Computers to 2 years.. Assuming you're a Costco member, which I am.

I've been tracking this deal for a bit and am thinking about pulling the trigger on it. Its one heck of a deal.

Just got mine in, it is a 680m in the laptop. :)

Edit: The tax on mine was about $80 dollars and the shipping was $29.95 for anyone wondering. I live in VA if that helps any, but it appears the shipping rate was a flat amount for anyone in the states. It came with the Win 7 premium disc SP1 and the M17x R4 Resource disc in the box.

You never found the Sagers? You can get 7970m Crossfire in the NP9370 for $1900. Or NP9150 or NP9170 with 680m for about $1600.

also micro-stuttering on crossfire 7970 is so well known i didnt want to have to deal with it.

Well, it's not (terribly) difficult to get an m17x with a 1080p screen and 680m for $1600 if you don't extend the warranty. The free second year of warranty for Costco members does make this deal not-too-shabby though, because of how much Alienware gouges people for warranty coverage.

I also heard of this deal and there were a few things I was wondering (well 2):

Name plate - I would really like to have the nameplate option (have it customized)

Nebula Red - I know its not available now but I still really like the red but if I have to I can deal with black.

Also I'm getting a new laptop for college and I want the M17x particularly so should I try to get it sooner rather than later?

Received my unit and must say I am pretty happy with it.

As far as the name plate, I did not see any customization options and buying the laptop is dependent on if you want to wait for better options (Haswell and gpu refresh that might increase costs) or buying the unit because you need it right now.
