How about for the price (configs with 680m get over $2000 fast w/o warranty/ upgrades). Plus I am really eyeing this laptop, new model, and I had a feeling this won't last long.

You can always contact Alienware and ask them to create a name plate for you. Should be free. It takes awhile though since I guess it's done in China or something. I'm having that done for my M17X I bought second hand

How will you get it for $1,600 after taxes when the brand new m17x r4 base starts at $1,500 and +$150 for 1080p and +$550 for gtx 680m at Alienware website and a total of $2,200 plus tax and that's not including additional warranty coverage.

I mean unless i'm going psychotic in here, but maybe you are talking about a refurbished one or a used one or perhaps you managed to haggle it to 30% discount which will shave off $650-700 off the $2,300 price tag tax included.

So explain yourself on how it is easy to get a brand new m17x r4 with 1080p screen and gtx 680m kepler?

It is on the expensive side but Dell has one of the leading warranty services in the industry, you pay for what you get.

    That's exactly what I meant.

I would believe that if Alienware's customer service were all sunshine-and-rainbows. I haven't had terrible experiences, but I haven't been impressed either. I don't think Alienware would sell many warranties if Clevo and MSI offered similar coverage--you can buy Dell's Precision laptops, which compete with Lenovo Thinkpads and HP Elitebooks, with much cheaper (and probably better) coverage.

I bought an extended warranty for my m17x anyway, so my point is moot.

you are kidding right?? I've contacted almost all alienware chat experts online(literally :( ), and not a single one said we could customize a standalone nameplate order. if you really did, please tell us how, and if possible, mention your chat experts name.

and for the record, I too ordered a costco m17x, and was in serious doubt about the 680M, until I came across this thread.
naadra, you made my day. :D

what was on your nameplate naadra?? was it the generic "m17x"?? or was it something like "COSTCO"??!! :wideeyed:

all I can say is that the deal is awesome. grab it while you can. i almost bought an m17x last week from dell online, and then decided to wait till they come up with the haswell and the gtx700 series. then i saw the costco hook, and I took it. (and i seriously hope i dont regret).

the only problem (for me) I found with the deal was there was no 3d. i was willing to pay more if they had the 3d vision option too. I seriously doubt about the possibilty of a future 120Hz screen replacement on this m17x, from our side. if anyone has some suggestions, please put them forward.

My plate just has a few digits with M17x... no big deal in my opinion. I am very impressed with the laptop (speaking as an individual that upgraded from a Gateway 7805u). I was in the same boat as you and was going to wait until the Haswell and 7xx series but figured the bump in performance was not big enough. 2014 seems like a better time to upgrade if Maxwell and the Nvidia 8xx series makes a debut, but I just couldn't wait.

Hope you enjoy your new laptop!

I've done this twice already, once for the m17x R2 I bought at the outlet a few years back, and once for the m14x R2 I just received. They never had a problem making the plate, but they asked that I wait until after I received the laptop to put the order through.

    Good luck!

You have to go through Alienware tech support once you receive your system. I've tried through the chat system, they have no clue whatsoever. Just follow the voice prompts when you call as if there is a problem with your system and give them the service tag. Explain that your system was purchased through the outlet and therefore does not include the customized name plate. They'll probably tell you it may take a while, but I received mine.

    Good luck!

thanks man, I appreciate the help. I haven't got the m17x from costco yet, they are now saying there is some shortage with the parts or something, anyway i should get them probably by the end of the month. I think I should wait for it to come to see what its service tag is. :\

how much did it cost by the way??
