Use coupon code TNWIN7L for a 28% discount, lowering the cost to only $251 plus tax.
You get a year-long subscription that gives you the right to download, install, and activate just about every piece of software that Microsoft makes: every edition of Windows (7, Vista, XP, even 3.1), every member of the Windows Server family, nearly every member of the Office family, and a slew of tools.
You get 10 activation keys for each piece of software.
That means you get:
10 keys of Windows 7 pro AND
10 keys of Windows 7 ultimate AND
10 keys of Windows 7 home premium AND
.....
If you want more keys in a legit use environment (ie, not selling them or giving them out to friends), all you have to do is call them and ask.
These keys should not be sold to others, and should not be used in businesses.
The software is licensed for evaluation only, but it has no time bombs, so even if you choose not to renew, you can continue to use it.
A: They remain valid:

Technet is great if you want to upgrade multiple computers - it's totally worth the money in that situation. I love it.

Yup, there are three computers that I want to put win 7 on ... Thats $90 from the 741 deal, plus I get to install Office on all three computers, and lots of spare license keys.
-
You can pull multiple keys for each OS or application. 10 activations per key. Just don't abuse the system and no worries. I think this is the same deal I got last year.

htwingnut, can I get 10 keys for windows 7 pro, install on 10 different computers, change the hard drive on each computer 10 times, and do 10 reinstalls on each one (thus 100 different activations, 10 working computers at any one time) ?

In theory, yes. But that would probably put up a red flag. It's more for educational and development purposes on a personal level. If you did that over the course of several years, they wouldn't notice, but if you did it in short order it might alert them to something. I'd be leary of pulling ten licenses for any single OS or application though, especially over the course of just a year.
I pulled one Win7 Pro license to use on my two desktops, one Ultimate to use on my laptop, and one Home Premium to use on my netbook. I pulled one Home Server license too. I'll pull one Office 2010 Ultimate (or Pro, whatever) license once available.
The point is to get you to renew year after year. They aren't real clear as to what will trigger a red flag, but I wouldn't go crazy, or at least have good justification for that many machines. Although I'm sure there's enthusiasts that own tons of machines, or if you're a family of 12 and need five or six PC's. -

It is for personal use, I just dont want to worry about using up app x's quota just because I changed the hard drives.
But I was intending on pulling 10 licenses over this year though (to be used in the future) -
If you don't renew, will system updates still work?
-
if you mean windows updates then yes they do..

-
LOL, no wonder there are so many keys up for sale on ebay.

Their normal price is $350, I'm not sure when the coupon will expire.
However they periodically give out 25% off coupons.. -
If I were to get a Technet license will I also get Office 2010 as well this year? If so I may bite and buy a license for the cheap.
Another question is, is all the downloadable software the same as the retail stuff?
edit: I just saw the title cool beans, I think i'm buying a license. -

While the future cant be predicted, if Office 2010 is released in 2010, you should get it.
Technet and MSDN are early adopter sites, so they get software before it becomes retail available
For example, Office 2007 became available on technet on Nov 16 2006 (when release for retail customers was in jan 2007).
The software is exactly the same as retail software, no restrictions, no time limits.
(other than it should not be sold etc). -
Also am I allowed to bring in a friend on this deal where we split the cost difference where both of us get 5 licenses a piece? -

Office 2010 is supposed to be released sometime this year:
http://hothardware.com/News/Microsoft-Details-Dates-Versions-of-Office-2010/
The beta has been there on technet.
MS should release Office 2010 this year (it would be unpleasant for MS to release a product called 2010 in 2011)
Technically, you're not supposed to share the keys with anyone. Practically, anyone can use the keys. But note that if you take it to the extreme, where your friend shares his 5 keys with 5 other people; and you share your 5 keys with 5 others, and do the same for other programs with different people, so that you have 100 computers in 100 different locations using keys tied to the same account, then MS may invalidate the keys.
2 people should not be a problem. To keep this kosher, I'm assuming you will use you friends computer occasionaly, so YOU really will be testing the software on your friends computers. Your friend just happens "allow" the software to be installed. And the $$ you get from your friend is for something completely unrelated -
-
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
Sure, but you will visit your friends computer at least once right ??
And your friend is just installing the software to enable you to play around with it when you visit ? -
If he says no I may still by the license for Office 2010. I know that thing at retail is going to be at least $500 for the Full Version.
When is this deal over btw? -
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
Heck then, go ahead, let your friend install it on his computers
-
I am no currently living in the US. But I could buy the TechNet subscription with my debit card from my account in the US.
Do you guys think there could be a problem if I download and install any of the software outside US?
Thank you for your help -
This is definitely something I need to do at some point in the future. I have a few laptops and tons of desktops that don't have Windows 7 yet, and I bet they would all be much faster with it. I'll keep this in mind when I'm ready to upgrade, thanks!
