Wow, that's a really good price!
-
Wow... I was going to buy a similiar model with a 2.26Ghz processor, but with a 3850 for like $1100 back in feb... This is a great buy!
-
2.5% Live CB as well, not quite $20 off but still.
I'm trying to decide between this and a faint hope that the refurb Gateway FX will come back -
How hard would it be to upgrade the processor? Would it even be worth the trouble?
-
oh my, amazing deal!!!
-
-
Yeah... saw this the other day... it's very very tempting. But, I have two PCs a laptop, a netbook, a nokia web device and a media phone... I don't _need_ it. But dang it, good deals like that are so hard to turn away from and it's a seroius upgrade from my current laptop.
*sigh* -

If I needed a laptop right now I'd snatch this one up, even though it has a low screen resolution (and many of you here know how much screen resolution matters to me). The Radeon HD 4670 is an excellent video card and the processor is respectable.
-
They've extended the rebate. The form now says if you purchase between 6/1 to 6/10. Price is still 749 with a rebate of $50 at newegg.
-
Meh deal looks freaking hot if i was able to sell my desktop I would totally grab it!
-
Every one who is thinking about getting this laptop get it! I have been comparing this laptop to many others but it ranks on top. It is the best bang for the buck laptop in the $500CAD-$1000CAD price range. I am buying this laptop in Canada and just for the people who live in Canada and want this laptop the link is...
Link: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152108
P.S Chaz this laptop was actually made for entertainment hence the EX. The MSI G Series are the laptops made for gaming. -
The only thing I'm concerned with about it is the temperatures. It sounds like the heatsink isn't that great, and it can run pretty hot under load. That might also reduce it's upgrade path.
-
They're selling it for $899 now without the rebate
Wait...
This link from Pricegrabber still works:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...OTC-pr1c3grabb3r-_-Notebooks-_-MSI-_-34152108
Also, Mwave is selling it for the same price. Shipping costs might be different:
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SKUSearch_v3.asp?scriteria=5574369 -
Krista I think it's still worth it (I converted it w/ the MIR and it came to approximately $763CAD) but the shipping costs (If you even can ship) might increase the price even more, and all you need is a laptop cooler for the heat
Plus you can't really find any good laptops in Canada like this laptop.
I am getting a laptop cooler for around $10CAD -
Oh I don't think it'll overheat... MSI wouldn't build one that would, but the upgrade path... I don't usually carry around a cooler. But yeah, I'm seriously tempted... but, I don't _need_ it
so I'm having a hard time pushing the button and spending the money.
But I think it's a fantastic deal! -
Is there a compatible blu-ray drive you could buy to replace the dvd one? I was reading that this model has a blu-ray optional drive but since newegg isn't carrying it, is there something else you can buy to upgrade it yourself?
-
-
JVlichael, are you buying that computer from newegg.ca or .com? I'm getting $899 CAD on the canadian site...
-
Yeah I am buying it on the Canadian one.
Ops Major Typo
Sorry -
MSI machines DONT overheat, and they use one fan too
, after all they build OC ability into near enough all there machines, regardless if it has a button or not hehe.
-
this should pull in right behind the 9800m GS notebooks - awesome price.
-
Uh... the 9800M GS will kick the snot out of the HD 4670. The HD 4670 is comparable to the 9700M GT which is in a class below even the 9700M GTS. Check out the link in my sig. The HD 4670 is slightly above the 9700M GT but there is a big disparity compared to the 256-bit high end GPUs.
-
I read a review saying that the HD4670 (when OC'd) was slightly under the 9800M GS, and over the 9600M GT/9700M GT. and the memory can be upgraded to 1066MHZ which is pretty good.
-
-
it's a very capable card, but don't hope to oc it too much, it's pretty hot already and it runs at 675mhz. i think it's between a 9700m gt and a 9700m gts.
-
The CPU can be OC'd high though since it's a P Processor as I have heard.

P7450 and T9600 on this laptop overclocked the fsb from 266 (1066) to 306 mhz ran into the same limit on the fsb and originally thought it was the ram, second processor confirms only thing todo is try it one stick at a time or with enthusiast ram. -
I have read many reviews on this laptop saying many good things such as:
- it's ram can be upgraded to 1066MhZ
- It is MXM - II, but it's the best card in it's class for now
- Processor can be upgradedd (not sure)
As I stated before "as I have heard" -
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
I did never notice the 625 Uses DDR3, If 1066 is the max I wonder if she rull 1333 ram at 1066 which would allow you to push the processor overclock as far as she will go.
-
It also has a 3MB Cache, you should thoroughly look through the specs it's quite amazing

Had I not seen the asus and someone had linked me to it, would have bought it in a heart beat. I link this directly to people in the budget range its definitly a steal but knowing the asus i would still take it. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Nice deal for ATI fans.
-
Is the vista 64 bit? if not i believe it only reads 2 gb's of ram. Anyone know?
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
-
Where does it say 64bit? cant find it anywhere. what do you mean by 3.25?
-
-
So you can download the 64bit? whats the cost usually?
-
Uh-Oh bad news guys:
Great Bargain, One Big Complaint

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Great CPU/GPU, very small and light for a 16"
Cons: I verified with MSI tech support that you cannot even remove the warranty sticker to replace the hard drive without invalidating your entire 3-year warranty, which is completely ridiculous. Some kind of keyboard lighting would be nice. -
Someone please clarify this for me, the MSI brings 4gb of ram. Will the laptop use all 4 gigs with 32bit vista?
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
32 bit vista will use a little over 3GB of ram. Didnt notice the one review saying its 32 bit vista as its not in the specs specifically.
-
Yeah that's the cruddy thing but it's still worth it
-
RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
I wouldnt have a real complaint either, you may feel short changed on this but if they only put 3GB of ram in it no one would say anything. I would rather have the 4GB so when I upgraded to 7 x64 later on I would already have 4GB of ram. Remember in the upgrade 64 bit uses a bit more ram. -

What would you recommend...
MSI EX625 for $699
ASUS G50VT-X5 (refurb) for $739.99
Gateway P-7805u FX (refurb) for $749.99
Thanks -

Depends on if you like refurbs, MSI for new, The gateway for Refurb.

And this laptop seems like a tremendous value to me - I was actually considering between it, the GT627, and NP8662. Wide range, but for the price this laptop can't be beaten - pretty sure that's the most powerful graphics card you'll find in a sub-$800 laptop. Ultimately I decided to spend twice as much for something I thought would last a bit longer and wouldn't void my warranty if I decided to upgrade, but anyone on a budget should consider this. I've heard nothing but good things about MSI (except the shoddy build quality of the GT627). -
Newegg isn't showing the rebate anymore.
As to voiding the warranty... I still don't think opening it up would do that. Why would they make the laptop with an upgradeable video card if that were the case? And no sticker is going to survive unscathed for 3 years... -
Well, they might do that just because they don't want you to have a warranty
