Thanks for the heads up! I was really close to buying this one instead.

Yes I know the GPU is a slight downgrade, but I'm not a hardcore gamer. The overall package makes up for it anyways and I believe it has more potential. I also managed to save $100 and I didn't have to pay for our horrible 9.25% CA tax!
Do you know if I'll be able to upgrade the CPU to Quadcore? -
Yes this unit supports quad core, you have to make sure it has the newest bios. It will take Q9000, Q9100, Q9200, and QX9300..

Damn and I just built mine. Nice price even though it is a 1680x1050.

I can't find any info if this model 320gb hdd is 7200rpm or if the 4gb is ddr2 800. Thanks again for the info!

BTW, the price is no longer $699.99, now its $749.99! -
Wow at 749.99 the price still isnt half bad. Reminds me of the P-6860 gateway.

Will look forward for their new quadcores this fall. -

~$712 for a new unit w/ warranty along with Vista, P8600, 4gb, 320, WiFi is a sweet, sweet deal for this unit which is almost 100% assured to run at 2.88ghz via BIOS OC. It really makes the pricing on the few barebones on eBay right now not worth it except for certain situations (IE, you want WUXGA+, you have most of the parts on hand, etc..).
I am waiting for the GT725's to go on closeout now that the 729 is on the horizon. When they show up dirt cheap, refurb (or both), I'm snatching one up. -
I just picked one of these up last week from Tiger Direct.
Memory was running a 333 clock, not a 400 clock. I swapped with OCZ 400 memory and still sitting at a 333 clock, no bios options for memory clock rates.
[it is too bad I gotta hit the void warranty screw to upgrade the memory.]
The layout inside is nice, video card upgrade looks straight forward if it would work / be detected.
Any ideas on how to at least hit the 800 clock on memory? -

"The 1722/GX720 comes default with the memory timings set to 667 (versus 800 that most modern memory supports). It also comes default for the Turbo function set at 16%.

What's so special about this? 9600M GT?

I think the ease of upgrading, light weight for a 17" Notebook (~7lbs), full Quad support, Turbo overclocking of CPU up to 24% (Dual Core), and $700 price tag at the time.
