I read somewhere on this site that Dell planned to release information on 2 new coupons for 2 different configurations on their Inspiron 1525, the coupons were being released today, November 27, 2008. I can't find the new coupon information anywhere on Dell.com, if the coupons are being introduced today, November 27, 2008 will they show up on Dell.com later today or sometime tomorrow, on Friday, November 28, 2008?

Dell certainly does make it confusing to configure a system in an attempt to get the best deal. Some systems will come with MS Works 9.0, others will not, some will come with an option for 2GB memory while others start out at 3GB of memory. Some offer a 120GB HD while others offer 250GB HD and larger.

Some offer the option of a Dell wireless g card or an N while others do not. Some come with a webcam option which is something I do not need while others do not. Any suggestions on how to configure an Inspiron 1525 for the lowest possible price, take advantage of coupons if any are available and try to get the options that I want would be appreciated.

DELL doesn't make it simple for customers to be sure they're getting the best possible deal, agreed! And there are often hidden specials or sales that only make things even more convoluted.

Here's the DELL Black Friday sale paper- http://www.2008blackfridayads.com/dell/dell-black-friday-adscan-01.php

The Black Friday ad features an Inspiron 1525 for $559 (after $285 instant savings) and it's only valid on Friday 11/28. However, when I enter the E-Value Code of 16254-DNPHPD4 on the Dell site, it shows the price as $609 (after $265 instant savings)- http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=19&kc=16254&oc=DNPHPD4&x=10&y=10 The $609 configuration DOES include Vista Home Premium, which would be a $30-40 option on the $559 model.

There's also an even better looking deal for $649 (after $379 instant savings)- E-Value Code 16254-DNPHPD5 valid thru 12/3/08. It currently isn't pulling up anything, but should be after midnight tonight- http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/newspapers_dt?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml This one has a 2.1GHz Intel T8100 processor and 320GB Hard Drive, according to the ad.

You should also take a look at the DELL Outlet inventory for "Previously Ordered New" 1525 models- there are currently over 450 of these showing up! They're identical to a regularly ordered/configured new 1525 in every way. http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

I've configured Inspiron 1525's so many times since I dropped my Inspiron 1300 back in January 2008 that I have a pretty good idea as to what I want. Dell needs to make it easy like it was years ago when you went to your local car dealer to configure a new car or truck.

GM would list every concievable option on the list and you simply would go down the list and select which options you wanted and if you had a problem you could discuss it with a salesman. Years later GM started to offer bundle packages to where if you wanted power windows and door locks, you might get both if you also selected an upgraded radio and so on and so on.

That's what Dell seems to be doing and has been doing for quite sometime. I have looked at Dell's outlet, I have a pretty good idea how to work their configurator until I get to the part where I'm required to choose which processor I want. I have been told to stay away from Celerons, Athlons, but to consider an Intel Duo Core 2.

Have you seen how many different Duo Core 2's Dell has listed in their outlet? Are you saying that "previously ordered new" units in the Dell Outlet are just as good as ordering a new unit myself from Dell.com? I sure would like to receive one of those 20% off outlet coupons because I would take a much closer look at Dell's Outlet. Thanks for the post.

I decided to check out some of the "previously ordered new" inventory on the Inspiron 1525's at the Dell Outlet Store. They had several listed with Intel Pentium Dual Core processors, ( T3200 - 2.0GHz/667Mhz FSB/1MB cache ) and others which had Intel Core 2 Duo processors, ( T5800 - 2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache ). For basic computing needs which primarily are web surfing and email, no gamer, no videos, could I get by with the Pentium Dual Core T3200 processor or pay a little more and buy one with a Core 2 Duo processor?

I just went to Dell to configure a new Inspiron 1525 and attempted to use a coupon code which was posted on your website. I'll have to admit I'm new to this coupon code thing but after I entered the coupon code number at check out, [ 16254-DNPHPD5 ] I was told I had entered an invalid code number and to try again.

So I entered the other coupon code number, [ 16254-DNPHPD4 ] and again I received the same error message, invalid code number, please try again. What am I doing wrong? The 2 configuration deals listed on the Dell coupon page on this website were for Inspiron 1525's, one totalled $560. and the other $650. Does that mean I must configure a unit totaling either $560. or $650. to be able to use these discount coupon codes?

Here's the coupon codes I was trying to use but couldn't. I must be doing something wrong, the laptop I configured before any discounts was around $900.00. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong I would appreciate it.

I've always been fond of the way Honda does it- there are NO factory options. They build three or four trim levels (DX, LX, EX, EX-L) and each trim level adds certain features. With the "À la carte" options there were far too many possible combinations and there were always a few lame ducks that nobody wanted- like a car with leather seats and power moonroof, but with hand-crank windows and an AM radio! :)

Previously ordered new are 100% identical to a configured model from the Dell.com site. The Outlet is an awesome way to save a substantial amount and get a brand new system! My Studio 15 was priced at $959 in the Outlet (Previously Ordered New) and I had a coupon at the time which brought it down to $767.20 plus tax and $19.99 shipping. For comparison sake, I built the same exact configuration on the regular Dell site and it was $1418!!! I saved $650 on a brand new Studio 15 laptop!

Go for it if you find one in the Outlet that you like! You won't be disappointed.

Those are e-value codes not coupon codes. C&P the e-value codes into the link in the post above.

What's the difference and if those are not Dell coupons where do you guys get Dell coupons from? I stated previously that this coupon code thing was and still is new to me.

I was hoping to get a coupon from Dell's Outlet store before Christmas, I received one by email a few months ago offering me 20% off of anything sold in the outlet store. Those "previously ordered new" units listed and there were a lot of them, are those new units built previously for customers who cancelled their orders at the last minute?

As for a processor for an Inspiron 1525 could I get by with a dual core unit or should I buy a core 2 duo unit? Remember all I'll be doing is web surfing and email, might also do some Quicken but not much. About those Dell coupons, not the E value codes where do you get those coupons from? If I saw a unit in the outlet store that I liked, had a 20% off outlet coupon from Dell could I use another coupon from another source to get more off the price or would Dell not allow that? Can you get Dell coupons from anyone else besides Dell or is Dell the "only" source for those Dell coupons?

Another thing, many of those "previously ordered new" Inspiron 1525's that I saw last night came with either wireless "g" or wireless "N". My old Inspiron 1300 had "g". Should I consider switching to "N" or stay with "g"? If I did purchase a Dell outlet unit that had wireless "N" could I use my Linksys WRT54G router with wireless "N" or would I need to buy a wireless "N" router?

I saved some notes from a previous poster who said if I was to buy another Linksys router for "N" to stay away from the WRT610 model, but to instead consider purchasing a 300N, a 330N, or a 600N model instead. Finally does anyone who participates on this board own a Dell Inspiron with the "midnight blue" lid? Is the "midnight blue" a nice color, easy on the eyes or is it like the "pacific blue" offered on another Dell laptop model which to me looks more purple than blue on my computer's screen. Thanks for your comments.
