I was waiting for this one again. :D

Right now newegg has the fantastic Western Digital WD5000BEVT on sale for $89.99 with free shipping. To make the deal even sweeter, if you browse the combo deals you can get the hard drive with an external enclosure in black or silver at no additional cost. It's not the best enclosure out there, but it's free so why not? ;)

This hard drive consistently gets good reviews. One in particular that stands out is this one done by tech report. It put 5 500GB hard drives against each other and the WD5000BEVT came out as the best.

I have this hard drive in my PS3 and love it. Cool, quiet and fast. I'm ordering another for my laptop.

Great! Now there's no reason NOT to have 500GB in every notebook PC.

Still going. Take advantage and bump up your laptop or PS3's storage. I'm tryin to scrounge together the pennies to get another one.

Still wondering if I should pay 20$ extra for this over the 320GB Scorpio black. I know I don't need the extra space so...

That's a terrific price for that hard drive. Out of curiosity, where did you get the info on how to upgrade the HDD in your PS3, NiteWalker?

I looked all over the net. The best resources were definitely youtube videos. It's really simple. Undo a screw, pull the drive out, undo 4 more screws on the HD cage and then reverse the order to put the new one in. Backing up your PS3 data is what takes time. It's simple too (just plug in a FAT32 formatted external drive and use the backup utility on the PS3), but can take a while depending on how big your backup file is. Mine was 28GB and took just under an hour. Repeat the process except choose restore in the PS3's backup menu once the drive is changed out.

@Chango; If size isn't important go for the Scorpio Black. If it's for a PS3 you won't see much of a difference performance-wise. Laptop use? Go for it.

Yeah i did myne too real easy. Pop the little cover, a screw and then slide it out. One of the ones in this laptop are going in next.
