nice post +rep -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I just have Norton. It really slows down my PC.
-
i wouldn't take it even if it was free forever
-
i dunno guys. i used to think norton was invasive and annoying. NIS 2010 is working great for me. i used avira and avg before this. this program is better and doesnt use many resources
-
-
YES finally some people who agree. NIS2010 is a great program. IMO the best out there cuz it does what it needs to do, + identity safe, + less resource usage = win in my book.
-
exactly, it even used less resources than nod32

spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Is this product really optimized than last versions?
Coz, I used to have a lot of problems and this software was a bottlneck for my system. So, I just deleted it and kept the new Zonealarm as it was a 1 yr free license. -
-
It's a good iteration of NIS, and it has less CPU resource usage compared to 2009, but the only minor annoyance is the ridiculously sensitive SONAR protection..haha tripped when I tried to install DOX drivers. Good thing you could disable it for a while though.
For 2009 users that bought their licenses you could actually use them with 2010, since that's what I did with mine. -
yep...buy amazon 1yr 2009 one for ~30bucks and u can upgrade to 2010 for free. good deal!!!
also...what so funny? i really hate the "hate" for norton, just cuz pre-2008 sucked doesnt mean things can improve. case in point...ATi. we always thought nvidia ruled b4, now look who is...norton is a good AV, maybe not THE BEST, but def. in top 3. the only others that are better AV wise is kaspersky and NOD32, but norton has features which neither have.
edit: OMGZ 2010 for 19bucks...that a better deal. really good AV for 19bucks...awesome. -
I work as an independent IT consultant and have been working with PCs since 1981 when they came out. I have not found an antivirus that is less useful than Norton. Not only is it not effective, it causes bugs in Windows based systems. I have tested Norton products for the last 9 years, including 2009 products, and would not recommend them to anybody and would not use them on my own computers if they'd pay me to do it.
I disinfect computers that have been compromised with malicious code on a weekly basis. I had a recent client who had Norton 2009 and had over 150 instances of malware in her computer. The tools I used to detect and eradicate the malware are FREE. Not only had Norton failed to eradicate them, it didn't even detect them! and the client was unaware of the fact that her computer was completely infected with malware.
I would be remiss therefore if I didn't post my opinion on this product. -
well i guess ur the genius then. for a common user, aka me, i use it, and as long as my computer doesnt feel like it has malware, then norton looks to be doing its job.
-
No, I'm not a genius, but I do have a bit more experience on this particular subject than you.
But hey, it's a free country so use whichever malware protection you choose. I'm just warning anybody who is interested on what data I have on this brand. -
i also disinfect systems every day and i have seen NO MORE cases of nortons than anything else. agreed as above use what works for you, i can recc nis2010 though
-
same here, NIS 2009....then upgraded to 2010 on the DV5T and the AOD 150 heck even the Acer AOD 150 runs the NIS with no trouble what-so-ever
-
What software do you recommend to keep a new comp clean
Norton: i think that a serious antivirus needs to have a database, and free software dont have the resources like norton, so it is better.
Also i tested both 2009 and 2010 and i hate 2010 because of the Giant number of annoying notifications. -
IMO the free antimalware softwares are sometimes too exaggerated--I remember going to an internet cafe and having my flash disk scanned, only to find out that it treated my Win98 boot files (files formatted into the USB to make it a bootable drive) as malware!
It's just a matter of how an anti-malware software detects threats--some software are too sensitive, others are very numb. IMHO NIS2009 and also 2010 struck a sense of balance, since I don't complain much about it. 'nuff said. -
