I bought this one last month during the Same $199 deal. So far so good. OCZ are hit or miss, but for $199/360gb its worth the risk. :)

7% maximum failure rate. means 93% is ok.

Is knowing if you got a bad one immediate or will it happen "coincidentally" after warranty expires? What exactly does a bad one bring with it as far as problems go?

the same can happen to any SSD on the market. even intel and samsung don't have 0% failure rates. depending on the model they are 0.6%-3%.
problems can go from a simple bdso to a sudden death.

really a nice price. 512gb is still expensive. 256gb is not enough. 360gb would be great. too bad the price per gb in EU for those drives are still very high. I would get 2 now.

They can be bad from the get go, which is actually good, at least you can return/exchange it right away. But typical failures are dead controllers. Turn your laptop on one day and won't boot at all. Nothing you can do about it really. So hope your data is backed up.

So you're saying it's good for them to fail 2x to 10x times that of the competition? OCZ are notorious for failures, slowdowns, but worse of all denying the issues. 7% is a LOT. That's 7 out of 100 drives are bad which is horrible by any stretch, it should be less than 1%

I've had 40GB OCZ SSDs in my desktops for a couple years now. I've never had a problem with any of them. I also can't tell a difference between them and the Intel drive in my X220i. I always dislike it when I see someone say this or that brand is bad as an absolute. Many of them have no experience with the brand and it's sort of a mob mentality. I'm not saying that's the case here, but my personal experience with OCZ has been excellent. People with a grievance also tend to be much more vocal than those who do not. Even if you point to the failure rates, while Intel is the lowest, failure rates for all brands remain low. If you buy any SSD, including OCZ, the most likely outcome is it'll be blazingly fast and you won't have any problems with it. I just upgraded my desktop to the 120GB of this drive and it's doing very well.

Emphasis mine. This is key. Having dealt with OCZ tech support back when they were a leading RAM supplier, they will do or say anything to get you to believe that it's something other than their product that was causing problems. Then we had the whole Vertex 2 debacle where they were transitioning to inferior components under cover of darkness. Since then, I've not touched anything from OCZ, and my computers have been much happier as a result.
