OCZ is crap, period. They've been caught with their pants down trying to use cheaper parts without marking the drives differently, have very poor satisfaction rates in the industry, and OCZ's own forum is chock full of annoyed customers dealing with all sorts of issues.

I myself have dealt with 3-4 drives from them. One DOA, three unstable, none still in my possession as they were more trouble than they were worth. There is no reason to go with OCZ when Intel 320 series (not 520!), Samsung 830 series, and Crucial M4 series drives have proven themselves to be more reliable, perform just as well, and have better customer support.

Unless you can get them very cheap in a non-critical situation like my kids' netbooks, I got two 60GB Agility 3's for about $50 each plus each came with a 4GB USB flash drive. Otherwise for my own systems I'd buy Intel, Samsung, or Crucial.

I wouldn't trust anything important on an OCZ drive because of the high failure rates and backing it up almost everyday to an external HD just to be safe is impractical.

There's nothing more frustrating than losing all your data and having to re-install your games, software collection, tweaking your system and having projects such as electronic music/graphic design work-in-progress all lost. Now imagine going through this several times a year because of the ridiculously high number of RMA's. No one wants to back-up their files every day of the week because of constant fear that they have a defective OCZ drive.

Plus, as Greg mentioned, OCZ is one of the most vile and deceptive companies I have ever seen in the tech industry. They will lie and suppress any negativity regarding their products to give new customers the illusion that their products are fine. I was even reading that they bribe reviewers if the particular reviewer gives them a positive review ...if anyone gives them a negative review, they're cut off. Just think of the OCZ CEO as a Kim Jong-il of the tech industry.

Just as a cheerleader for WHS, this is done automatically every day with WHS. Many NAS devices do this daily as well. But having that hang over your head isn't good.

My experience with OCZ drive is the exact opposite. I have three 40GB drives in my desktops right now. None has given me any trouble. I've had 3-4 others with no issues, except the original Core drive which stuttered badly.

From the article you linked it sounds like it's more a function of switching to 25mm drives than a plot by OCZ to pull the wool over their customer eyes. The article states that OCZ is not the only SSD manufacturer doing it.

While I respect Phil's efforts, I don't know how that one can draw broad conclusions from the posts on one internet board. We're such a small sampling compared to how many SSDs OCZ sells. Plus the people here tend to be overly anal about their notebooks and are much more likely to be vocal about any problems, perceived or otherwise.

OCZ is fine with their current products(they may fail more compare to other brand, but probably not more than general electronics) or they would be gone already.
they did ruin their name before.(among people with some ssd knowledge).
    Average consumer dont give a damn :). review 5star + cheap = BUY !.
