Other World Computing introduced the Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD, a 2.5" SATA Solid State Drive (SSD) for Macs and PCs. With prices ranging from $229.99 for 50GB, $399 for 100GB and $779.99 for a 200GB version, the drive features read and write times over 260MB/s with 0.1 ms latency and "virtually no reduction in data transfer rate over the five year warranty life of the drive." According to OWC:

Utilizing SandForce DuraClass Technology, the OWC Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD is able to provide up to 100x higher data protection than provided by ordinary SSDs as well as leading enterprise class Hard Disk Drives. By combining the highest level of Error Correction Code (ECC) and SandForce RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) technology, the OWC Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD provides RAID like data protection and reliability without loss of transfer speed due to parity.

Hmm. I wonder how this stacks up against the second-gen Intels.

Me too. Not sure if it's worth the risk cause there are no reviews or third party opinions yet.

Sounds like it is based off of the SandForce controller. Wish I had more money. :(

Its based n the SandForce 1500 controller and even the company is a bit confused over it although it is apparently available.

It is detailed as a mlc yet the guy who did the review described it as a slc when asked. This is kind of a BIG piece of information I'de like to know. If I can get a slc in 100Gb capacity with those results for the advertised 399...I'm pulling out my credit card now.

Also, in their testing, they don't show any tests as we would expect such as 4k r/wr.

One thing I do appreciate is the size is listed as actual usable size of the drive. Technically its a 128Gb but 28gb is used up by the ssd itself leaving the advertised 100gb.

Also, its advertised for both Mac and PC but fails to discuss TRIM or garbage clean up. The reviewer does say they are working on a toolbox which will be released in the future...

If anyone gets any answers, please post...very interested.
