I don't know what you are seeing, if it is at the gateway site...
Looks like they just put the same one back up on the site - same P-6860FX, with the T5550/4GB/320GB/512Mb 8800M GTS @ $1349 MSRP.

Now, though, it looks like their in-house P-172X FX is gone from the site.
Any link into their in-house P-series FX, goes to the P-172X, which is NOT an FX equivalent.

We probably just need to wait until they finish all the site updates...

They're coming out with a new one with a 9800 GT, they're probably trying to get rid of this one. I'll post a new thread about it in a second. The new one is supposed to retail for $1,150.

    http://www.pr-inside.com/gateway-helps-students-get-ready-for-r674487.htm

It looks like the 9800 GT is for the desktop line, they didn't give specs about the new P-FX, other than it's getting a sweet case redesign with LED lights.

"Gateway's newest model in its retail gaming FX line, the FX4710, continues to raise the bar for value-based gaming systems, with an MSRP of just $1,149.99. Sporting a sleek new industrial design with streamlined black casing and silver trim, it also includes LED lights that provide system status for key activities such as a wireless network activity."

hmm, I don't think that system will be coming out any time soon.
The processor alone shouldn't be out till q3. Thanks for the info

"Housed inside the new chassis is a host of advanced powerful technologies, including an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad Q9300 processor, a whopping 6GB(1) of memory, over-clocked NVIDIA(R) GeForce 9800GT graphics and Windows Vista(R) Home Premium 64-bit. The new FX4710 makes it easier than ever for consumers to experience serious high-performance computing for a fraction of the cost."

This is a pretty sweet deal for all the features in this laptop and correct me If I'm wrong, but I think you can upgrade P-6860 FX's processor to Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 2.8GHz.

Actually, they don't mention the P-FX at all - the FX series you read about is desktops, and there is no mention of any specifics of the P-FX series laptops, although they briefly mention the T and M series laptops.

why do they insist on using the gt or gts versions of the cards though.. even at a small bit higher price tag there are SO MANY people who would have bought one of these if it was a 8800gtx or the 9800gtx in the newer ones coming i know i would have.. they are really nice machines overall imo if they had a 8800gtx i would prob own one already but even in their 3k$ machine they offer its still a 8800gts card to me that ridiculous not to be a gtx for that price

maybe they made a sweet deal w/ NVIDIA since i don't see that many 17" notebooks w/ 8800GTS.

We ordered one for my son on Sat. night right before midnight before it went off sale and had it by Thurs. morning at 10am. Not bad service. So far he really likes it.
