While looking at purchasing a barebones notebook lately I came to one conclusion. We need to ask Newegg.com to get into the whitebox line.

I have been shopping for the ASUS Z70Va lately and have had a tough time getting a good price. All the vendors offer a different starting price or fiddle with the cost of adding an item like battery or DVD burner. This ends up makeing none of the outfits worth buying from.

We really need some Newegg compition on this.

So I sent an email to Newegg's product suggestion https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/FeedBack/ShallWeCarry.asp and asked them to start carrying these and other whitebox items. If enough of us start to tell them that we are interested and that this is a viable area to do business in the price will drop for all of us who are wanting to build. As it is I have it set up where I would buy just the barebone notebook with CPU (though ewiz.com had it cheaper), DVD burner and modular battery from an outfit (who then raised their price) and purchase the ram, wifi, and harddrive form Newegg.

So lets let computer outfits know we want better prices like what Newegg gives us.

Doubt it will happen, they'll need alot of customer service and they'll need to scrape that no refund policy which won't happen...

I was gonna give an example of something but ran out of ideas...

Well this would assume they would build it. I am not saying they would -- I / the buyer will. Just like any other system build I have to do when I buy the components on Newegg.

All they do is offer the product parts for service. Those who want to do all the building (the #1 reason for buying a PC is building it not using it by the way ;) ) can put the parts together.

Ooohhh, ok then. I would see that happening, I know alot of NewEgg type stores that sell barebones by themselves.

I could only find two here in the states that are close to the prices I wanted. Prices still flucutated some and shipping could get high.

    www.rjtech.com and www.istnc.com

I JUST configured a Z70va at Star Tech Inc for CHEAPER than I expected. I went with the 1.86 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB 5400 RPM drive, DVD-RW, wireless (but no bluetooth).

    It came up to $1627.61.

Seems like a reasonable price. Is Star Tech well respected as an Asus vendor?

I was thinking about getting a z70va from www.agearnotebooks.com, they seemed to have a pretty good price and a good rating on Yahoo shopping, but I don't have any experience with them though.
