It was a real contest, but you can call it a scam if you like on the basis they gave away a few good items and in exchange got a ton of new memberships to feed spam mail too and free publicity and advertisement far and wide on the web.
I think my next mouse will be the one Red just got the CoolerMaster instead of the new MX518 looking Razor just because I dont care for the fail of this contest. They come to post when its "over" on the forums but didnt care at all to stop by and let us know about the site problems or the status of what was going on.
The checkout system should have had its own server area for those that managed to get past the clusterhump that was the main site and cart so they could secure there checkout and get there well deserved prize (a laptop sleeve probably lol)
In hindsite the chances of winning this is probably less than the lottery when you think about just how many people were trying to get one of those 300 bags, and then the odds that one of those bags is actually something good.
I can pretty much guarentee if they had a lot of the good items they would have stated how many it was and not just said "a chance to get X item"
I mean if you were hosting some big event as a car dealer or something and giving away some cars for your grand opening and you were giving away 10 corvettes and 2 lame cars. You would not advertise your event in a way to make it sound like there is only a chance to get a car you would blatantly state there are 10 corvettes being given away to increase the publicity of the event.
Same here if your giving away a lot of items raning from really nice $100+ and some $5.00 POS if your giving away 20+ of the good item you would state something like 20 out of 300 will win X item worth $100+, not just "a chance to win X item" that just translates into "we are giving away one, maybe two of these, the rest of you get filler"
-
At least they gave me two $5 off coupons that I won't use.
-
I won't call it a scam if some one can prove that somebody actually did get the deal.

Hi Guys,
For those who didn’t manage to grab a Random Loot item, we feel your frustration, you know how these things go. I also understand that many of you were unable to access our website in the last few hours. The response to this promo were way beyond our expectation. You guys almost killed our server but for those of you who got thru, I'm sure you're smiling ear to ear.
Anyway, we decided to make it up to the rest of you by putting out another Random Loot item for the 1st 300 US and Canadian customers that purchase anything from our store. Just add any item into your shopping cart, checkout and we’ll throw in a Random Loot item into your package when we ship it out. It will be either one of the products listed on the Random Loot Page.
Head over to http://www.razerzone.com/store right now.
Sincerely,
Tom

razer > logitech...end of story. their names are some of the coolest ive ever heard, MAMBA!!!!!
wth is G9? where did G19 come from? these are random numbers irrelevant to the keyboard. at least razer has some kind of relevance, being their top-end mice/kb/audio are usually some of the most deadly creatures on earth.
but yea, G9 appeals to so little people, it has a VERY AWKWARD grip for palmers (usually the majority of gamers), unless you buy the ID grip which still has that cheap plastic cover used for putting a picture in there. the G500 is pretty decent, but even razer has released a mouse to compete with it, with similar design (imperator as seen below)
-
).
I actually used to own the G9, and it was a nice mouse. The regular wide-load grip was great for palm-gripping, so you don't really need to order the ID grip. I got one anyway, though, customized with the Counter-Strike headshot symbol. -

I think logitec makes the best mouse out there the MX518, yes there are now higher DPI and things out there but that mouse was not expensive and beat many of the high end gaming mice in a lot of catagories like polling speed, error handling, stuff that you normally never see or know about a mouse.
I think most people have moved over to the G5 now but I still prefer the MX518, and considering I was able to get both of mine for about $30 new, I say it beats anything razer is offering in a performance/price ratio by a long shot, and to most people I think that ratio of money to value/performance is what sells a product.
If it was a car $20,000 gets you one that goes 140mph and then you have one for $100,000 that does 170mph.
Saying you have the best is all good but look at how much more you spent, saddened by the fact if you evalutate your situation your car can do 170mph but you can never even drive it that fast.
Mice work the same way. 5400dpi.... ahahha yeah... so since when did any human being have the power to make voluntary movements so small and accurate that you can move only 1 dot out of 5400 in a single inch... you cant period. You bought more than you can use. And just to use it you have to dumb it down with a lower sensitivity in windows or your game and all that is doing is at a software level lowering the dpi of the mouse so that when you move one little micrometer with your mouse and it sent out 50 dots of movement instead of moving 50 it only interprets it as 1.
to actually use 5400 dpi you would need 1:1 mapping so that 1 dot is 1 pixel you would span 5400 pixels in just 1 inch of movement from the mouse. Lower the sensitivty down on windows so you only move 2700 pixels (half) and now your only efectivly using 2700dpi, the mouse is still producing and sending the 5400dpi signal but the OS is only using half of it. You would get the same effect with 1:1 mapping on a 2700dpi mouse.
We were talking about 1 inch here, who uses there mouse so that you span your entire screen + more in only once inch?
So when you take that out of the function the only thing left is ergonomics, price, and reliability.
The MX518 to me fits my hand perfect, has the buttons just where I want them, and has lasted me literally forever and its just like new still.
So I dont agree razor>logitech and I dont give a care about what the name of my mouse is ether. Its not one of my children its a piece of equipment I dont call it by its name so I can care less what it is. -
lol well i guess i cant generalize but most of the gamers I'VE seen (mainly friends) use palm gripping, which is why nearly all of them own a mouse besides G9 (the G500 looks really good IMO), whether it be razer DA (at least 4 of em own this stellar mouse), steelseries ikari, roccat kone etc.
i got my mamba for ~60bucks, near launch time or maybe a few months after. i think that is a great deal for the mouse. and yes DPI is a gimmick, if SS comes in here, he can straighten it out that DPI = sensitivity, nothing more nothing less.
and then it all up to some1's opinion, i think that getting the razer DA with its infamous 3G (now 3.5G) optical sensor @ 47bucks is an even better deal than any mouse out there (yes including the MX518). tbh, i cant stand the MX518 glossy surface (makes my hand sweat) while most razer mouse have unarguably the best surface (soft rubber-esque...iuno but its GG) of all gaming mice ever invented. the G5 was a decent mouse, but it had absolutely one of the worst designs of all times, what were they thinking with those blue scales? the G7 didnt receive that many positive reviews, altho som were good so they only mosue left for me was the G9. originally, when i looked on the internet, this 99USD piece of hardware looked so dreamy, but i tried it out once and found it wasnt the correct ergonomics i liked.
and if you read my post, i never said a thing about DPI, since it = sensitivity and i cant use high-sens. (keep my mamba @ 3200, copperhead defaults @ 2000). any mouse with above 2000DPI provides good sensitivity @ default levels in windows/gaming. so DPI when buying games is a big- gimmick, you are 100% correct when it comes down to the factors leading to buying it. ergonomics is subjective, maybe G9 + palming works for you, it doesnt for me so.....price is an important factor, i WOULDN'T have gotten my mamba if i had to buy it @ 130USD. luckily i got the hookup with a friendreliability is a definite thing, and im not going to argue that...logitech has better service that razer. my friend who owns a SS ikari, had a DA before and the left click started malfunctioning (two clicks with one hit). in all the wireless logitech mice ive owned, non have died and ive read good things about their support service.
IMO, logitech creates some of the BEST accesories in the planet, but razer trumps it in the mousing department. logitech do make great keyboards (im sure all you want a G19), some of the best headsets, some of the best mouse+kb (im talking about the wireless ones like MX5500) combos etc etc.
to shroom, yea well i guess every company can use the generic higher = better. but to say teh razer's naming scheme is juvenile...-_-...its much more creative than boring numbers. when u think of mamba, you instantly remember a killer snake, one of the deadliest in the world so it comes as no surprise that one of razer's best mouse will be called that. and i completely agree with Vicious, who cares about naming? sure its creative but in the end, its a piece of tech., im only writing this in response to the guy who said razer fails just cuz of their "juvenile" naming scheme.
edit: wow, where do u find the MX518 for 30bucks? everyplace i see, its 39.99 so its only a 7USD gap between the DA... -
Agreed. I'd say the MX518 and DeathAdder are on pretty even ground. They're both the top of the line optical mice, and priced similarly enough that it's basically a matter of personal preference. I've tried the MX518 before, and like you said, the glossy material makes it slippery after 10 minutes of use.

yeah I guess since I only use my fingers on the sides it doesnt get any sweat, I have my G7 in hand now on my laptop and it has the gloss on the top but the sides are rubber like with a sandpaper like grit but not so much that its annoying. I held a G5 at a store once and the really rough surface i did not like.
I think my MX518 has a rubber on the sides too but I am not at home to check.
I agree its all opinion, so thats why I had to rebuttal that razer>logitech as that was not stated as an opinion but as a fact. I bet I would like a few of the razor mice, infact I am looking at the imperator as maybe my next mouse (though its so similar to the G7 and MX518 I wonder if its worth it) but I also like the price/stats of the new cooler master mouse that Red got. -
yup I use a claw grip as well. then again I have big hands and I'm im using a logitech v470, a rather small light mouse

Ooh, this is exciting. I made an order yesterday (a Sphex mouse mat to be precise), and qualified for the second round of random loot (another 300, attached to orders throughout the day yesterday). I got my shipping confirmation email today, and in addition to the Sphex, it lists a Carcharias headset!
-
Man loading that site reminds me of university course selection or campus housing lottery -_-"

o well...i didnt really feel like ordering anything from razer since i got main things, the mouse + pad. the headset i would really want is a PC350. but getting a carcharias for free is INSANE!! lolol
the imperator looks really similar to the G500, and imo, i would just go for the G500 since it looks nice with that metal finish. it's also 23 bucks less on amazon, the imperator doesnt offer anything of vast significance over someth. like DA, besides the logitech G5 ergonomics. maybe the nice rubber grip that razer has on their other mice is a +, but the G500 looks stellar in comparison. -
I totally agree, I was expecting maybe a gear pouch or laptop bag or something. Certainly a pleasant surprise.
We'll see how it stacks up against my Plantronics GameCom 377 when it arrives...maybe I'll do a head-to-head review. -

I thought about getting a mouse pad just for loot lol, but I just bought one so I couldn't bring myself to do it. Shame.
-
What pad are you using now, Vicious?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I ended up going for the steel series since I knew I would like it and it was cloth so I could cut it down if I needed to fit my desk area.
Im on the hunt for a new wrist pad now for it though, I have replaced the entire setup except that so it would feel odd to keep my dirty grey electronics boutique foam wrist pad that I cut in half like 5 years ago. It still is holding up perfectly though.
Walmart is strange, the pad was in a tube rolled up, very small package yet it was packed into a box big enough to fit a small computer inside. I got my APC unit yesterday from amazon.com and a 30 something pound battery backup came in a smaller box.... wish I had gotten more of those too... $25.00 w/ free shipping for a 350w APC. -
At $8, I assume it's the QcK (the soft one)? I've heard good things, but never used one myself.
I'm using the Razer double-sided one (the eXactMat + eXactRest), they're both great, although I never really use the Control side of the pad. If you're looking for a wrist pad, you can get the eXactRest as a standalone from Razer. It's memory foam rather than gel, and definitely one of the more comfortable ones I've used. Unfortunately, they seem to be out of just the wrist pad, and everywhere else I've seen it only comes in combination with the eXactMat. -
That reminds me, I did offer a copy of Osmos to anyone who managed to get into the deal, would you like your copy of Osmos, Mastershroom? lol
-
In the spirit of the holidays, since you're gifting the game, perhaps you should consider giving it to someone who doesn't already have an $80 headset for free.
I do appreciate your generosity, though, dtwn. You're a good guy for holding up your end of the bargain. -

Last was for TF2 and previously something else too.

I believe the cheapest thing they have in their catalog is the $10 Teflon replacement mouse feet, but it's kind of pointless if you don't own a DeathAdder, Mamba, or Lachesis. Failing that, they have a couple mouse pads for $15, notably the standard size Goliathus Speed and Control editions, and the Sphex. For $20, they've got the Kabuto as well.
