Dell asks $150 for the upgrade from 1gig dual channel RAM to 2gig dual channel ram, But sells the exact same 1 gig sticks (check picture) in their accessories catergory (supposedly tested and optimized just for inspiron 1520, but idk how true that could be...) for $46 each, which seems like a somewhat reasonable price when compared to other brands. So you can get the same hardware + two extra 512mb modules for around $50 less without having to buy RAM from another retailer or worrying about compatibility.

The only problem is that you would open the notebook to install it and then you would lose the guarantee.

You do not void your warranty (if thats what you mean) when you install RAM. Someone back me up on this.

Though I know the chat ppl are unreliable, I asked one and he said it would not void the warranty.

I think I've read on the official Dell forums that it does not void your warranty. I'm pretty sure it's true.

I think RAM may actually be backed up by your warranty. (I am not 100% sure though)
