Only available in-store....
Seagate FreeAgent 500GB $89.99 at Office Depot. The ad is in the circular inserted in the Sunday papers, and also available at the front of the store.
I went to two stores. The first did not have it in stock. The second had two. I bought borh.![]()
OfficeDepot.com knew nothing about it, and, in fact, the signage in the store still says that the drive costs $129.99. I showed them the ad and walked out with the $89.99 deal.
Not the best deal in the world, but decent for a 500GB drive. I could do better probably by buying an internal and an enclosure, but I didn't feel like going to the trouble.
The drive got OK reviews on Newegg.com

Just read some reviews citing overheating and failing of these drives. I know there are reports of things like this happening with drives of all makes, but I was wondering if anybody had any feedback on Seagate drives (before I take these out of the box)?

I've got a 320GB Seagate FreeAgent Pro, it's fanless design makes it silent but it does get a little hot over the summer. other than that, the drive is great looking and reliable so far. can't beat their 5 year limited warranty.

Thanks for the recommendation, icecubez. The 5 year warranty is definitely attractive. I was planning on using one for storage, and the other, possibly, to hook up to my TIVO unit.
I thought the price was too good to pass up for 500gb storage, and with your recommendation, I am inclined to keep them.
Thanks! -
Terrible deal. My gf just got a WD 750GB for $99 and even then I thought it wasn't that good of a deal...

But then again, you shop at TigerDirect, which, in my experience, sells seconds and refurbs -
The lowest price, using google, from a reputable reseller for the WD MyBook 750gb is 99.99 at Newegg, but when you go to the site it is 119.99
I had actually ordered two Mybooks from Dell and cancelled them because I had read some bad stuff about them when they fall over. Easily damaged. I cancelled. -
um wd 2.5 500 gb are 129 now so im inclined to call this just market value of a 500 gb 3.5 inch drive. Its worth nothing really its yesterdays tech. 1.5 tb hds are 149 bare. add 20 for an enclosure and thats way cheaper per gb even than either of these deals. and the storage is even in a single drive it should be way more expensive.

cheaper than both of these deals and way better. -
I can find much better than that on Newegg...Cavalry 1TB for 119.99.
