As of today, Newegg listed the following hard drive (HD) for $57.99 w/free shipping:

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

    Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

At the same time, Newegg also lists the same HD for the regular $69.99 w/$6.29 shipping, but with a different item #:

    Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

I mention the latter in case one price or the other is erroneous.

Just be careful, Newegg is awful at shipping bare drives. If there is little to no packaging, return it quickly.

Thanks for your response. I'm not questioning your observations by any means, only that opinions like yours piqued my curiosity such that I mentioned it in a recent post/thread on bare drives I recently initiated:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...ket-upgrades/529361-bare-drive-questions.html

Judging from the few responses, I surmise members have had various experiences with the quality of Newegg's shipping and handling and perhaps Newegg has been inconsistent in this aspect.

It appears Newegg may have addressed the bare OEM packaging issues from the thread you linked.
