That is one true bargain for such an excellent drive. Even at the original price it's almost too good to be true. For those who wants something faster than the normal HDD, this should be it.

    Great price!

I wish they wouldn't call it "hybrid" because it's causing a lot of confusion. Just call it an advanced read ahead cache drive and let performance tell the truth.

Has anyone actually had any hands-on experience with this? I'm tempted but Newegg reviews say there's a consistent chirping problem. That and when the Momentus 7200.4 first came out, there were a lot of failures.

My 7200.4 has performed admirably for the last 9 months. I had chirping on mine but a firmware update fixed it. Hard to believe they didn't implement this same firmware fix in these drives. But that being said, seems if they can fix it in the standard 7200.4 they should be able to in the XT.

I haven't heard much about chirping problems, but for one NBR member, his XT drive seems to vibrate enough to the point where he decided to return the drive.

Though, take this with a grain of salt as each person's tolerance levels are different.

Maybe it's a quality problem with the initial batch and only affects a small %, and will be fixed shortly? I dunno. I'm not ready to buy yet unless there's a decent BCB or sale in the near future.

seagate always seems to have quality problems with their "initial batch".
