its worthless because it only comes with HDMI and it isn't even 1.4a or whatever the one is that you need for 4k. It is like running a HP ZR30w on VGA

    lol reread the specs

The new SEIKI 39-inch 4K model features built-in digital and analog channel tuning, USB port for displaying 4K photos via USB flash drive, and multiple video and audio connections to support current high-definition video content. The model is also packaged with an HDMI 1.4 standard cable to enable video resolutions beyond 1080p.

can't wait for them to make a 2.0 compliant one. Than i'll buy. Does any old games go that high? I know a lot of games go 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 but did they make them to go higher? or is every game on the market not 4k ready? There are some older RTS games i would love to run at 4k. like the old COH, older Total war games, Star Wars empire at war, Warband, Alien swarm, and a bunch of other games. How can you tell if a game can supports higher res? Is there a config file that stats support res? Is it hard to patch a game to support higher res? I hate how RCT 3 only supports 1600x1200 :(

EDIT: what i dont get is how AMD site says the 7970m can do 4k over hdmi but only 2560x1600 over display port 1.2......when online display port 1.2 should support 4k with 120 fps with 30 bit per color. Why could they not include display port in that monitor -_- So does the 7970m not support 4k through displayport even though it should?

There are a boatload of games you can edit .cfg file etc to whatever resolution you want but im not so sure about playing them at 30hz ?. I think i read at that resolution that is all the set runs at so for gaming it might be a tad rough .

so how would i edit star wars x wing alliance and RCT 3? I figured games could only run at a set res they were created for. How does a game engine know how to scale and how to add pixels and stuff? RTS games at 30 fps isn't that bad. I am still planning on waiting for more options. Especially a refresh of this one. Also about my comment on the 7970m and displayport 1.2....it should support 4k at 120hz but amd says it is only 2560x1600????

this tv is going to be more for a desktop or a console... not are laptops... sure you could use it but it would be a waist of time really..

I put this up for people that are buy any of the new consoles and wanted a cheap affordable option to get into 4k.. nothing more..
this tv has tons of awesome reviews and at e3 they couldn't believe the picture quality for the price..

I think it would take 1080p 120hz iirc, then you let the tv do the upscale. (not sure what quality)

huh? the 7970m supports 4k 30hz through hdmi 1.4 but display port 1.2 which i have supports 4k at 60hz (corrected) from what i read. Also a 7970m is more than fast enough to play older games at that res. That is why i want to know how you edit that config that dumb dumb said you could. RCT3 would be fine at 30hz but i would still wait for a display port version. I just don't get how a display port can handle 4k but amd site says it can only due 2560x1600 but it can do 4k through hdmi....why does amd post that. Is the site wrong?

Its either 4k at 30hz or 60 (idk displayport or hdmi w/e, not digging about it) or 120hz 1080p, so that just another option if gaming get concerned.

Who knows if they are making a display port version, and no one know if the tv is capable taking real 4k@60 signal.

Well, that is a gimmick of tv i recently learn, the panel may able to do 120hz refresh rate but some do not take 120hz signal. It take 24, 30 or 60,then either multiple the frames(pulldown) or interpolate them to have the smooth effect.

That why you see all the "120hz" tv out there with only hdmi input. Idk if hdmi or the tv is bottleneck, but both are possible.

Anyone know how I can use this with a laptop? I have a Sony Vaio Z3 which has HDMI although I don't know what version. I don't mind having to buy a dock or adapter of some sort to support 4K resolution in Windows 7.

note you will only get 24 or 30 frames per second PERIOD and that is if you have HDMI 1.4. I honestly would just wait until they release a display port version. Unless you seriously have money to blow and could care less. Read up on your GPU, HDMI, and displayport bandwidth to make sure you are good to use it.

hey TCL is coming out with a 50 in one for 1k which is about the same price as the 50 in seiki on amazon. The problem....once again only HDMI -_- I was hoping they were smart enough to throw in a single DP. I woudl totally buy the 39 or 50 one if it had DP. So many games i want to play at 4k. They are older games that would be awesome at that res....don't own a 780 or 7990 to play new games ^^ But nope still waiting for the first budget 4k TV with DP. I wouldn't find buying a 39 inch as a monitor/TV. It would be better than my u2412m lol. I have no issue with it being an impulse buy either knowing it is limited in nature. I'll buy a good plasma one in 3-5 years when i got the real money and when they become affordable. This would totally work for the next few years :/ No issue with only a 39 inch you know? I'll get a bigger one later. Save a few hundred bucks lol.
