Is this a sign that BR is not doing well, or that CC is not doing well?

Whether it is that or the cost of the technology is going down doesn't really matter! Its a steal of a deal!

I wonder that the incremental cost of manufacture of one of these drives is compared with a DVDRW drive?

Sony may be willing to sell the Blu-Ray drives at no profit and hope to recover the cost through increased sales of Blu-Ray discs.

CC is actually not doing well. Poor service and high prices, somewhat like CompUSA. They're probably going to be bought out soon.

Since it's CC, I assume you can get 10% back from live.com cashback, correct? If true, deal gets even better!
