    From CheapStingyBargains.com

Little bit older tech, but considering it's 50% off a normally expensive laptop, it's a decent deal. (Although, a netbook could probably do most of the same tasks for a third of the price.)

    Nice deal.

Also, you should be able to get cash back when ordering from J&R using Windows Live Cashback.

Isn't the TZ series known for overheating?

Unfortunately yes, mine gets very hot on the bottom left corning even when doing something like surfing with multiple open tabs, I cannot put it on my lap. Its also been announced for recall but I still haven't sent mine for repair yet.

Looks like since this high end model is only $1000 now, I'll have to sell mine for less, its collecting dust now that I got my desktop PC.

And to think I went absolutely ******* insane when the TZ was announced back in May 2007 and I wanted it so bad, it was the best laptop on the planet in my eyes. Its still better looking than the current TT series IMO. :)

I can't figure out what in the world about this notebook makes this such a good deal. An instant discount of $1000 off an extremely overpriced notebook doesn't necessarily qualify as an incredible deal if it got hardware like this.

You're missing the ultraportability factor. This thing is 2.5 pounds and has a screen to die for. Great battery life as well.

Netbook form factor but with a real CPU in it.

If you're looking for more options (larger capacity traditional HDD for example) the Sony Outlet ( www.sonystyle.com) has all sorts of configurations on clearance from $950-$1400.

    I bought a TZ-290N (64GB SSD + 250GB HDD) for $1400 about a month and a half ago.

My niece owns a Fujitsu P7230 10.6 in with a 1280x768 display. The resolution is ideal for a notebook that size and i find it slightly easier on the eye than the 1366x768 res display in my TX. The TZ has got the same res display as the TX.
There are some netbooks that have a 1280x768 led display.
I will be interested to see how the dual core atom CPU's compare to the ULV processors in the TZ.

Exactly, some people want a better CPU (and a DVD-RW drive!) in a small form factor, and why shouldn't they? Who is to decide that you can only have an Atom on a netbook. Yes it does cost more, but if you're willing to pay the small increase in price, then you get one amazing machine. I'm an advocate of more options for people who really want it. I believe it is truly a luxury item for what you get vs what's available out there.
