This one is for you lucky Americans. Norton Antivirus usually cost $60, but a nice offer at Newegg plus a mail-in rebate from Norton, puts the total price to $0.00.

The offer is valid to August 10th so go get it. Too bad I don`t live in US

Why bother with bloated, slow Norton when you can get Microsoft Security Essentials for free always?

Have you actually tried using NAV09-11? In my experiences, it's lighter on RAM and CPU (especially when updating) than MSE. The $0 cost for MSE makes it quite the compelling end-solution, though.

Yeah, the 2008 --> 2009 switch was a radical redesign of the NAV engine, which drastically cut down on the resource usage as well as the other bundled utilities (ie, the Internet Explorer toolbar).

It is? Then if so it could be compelling.

I have Norton Internet Security 2011,have had NIS for the last 2-3 years and it has been very light on resources. However about 6 weeks ago I noticed that memory usage suddenly doubled on all 3 computers I have it installed on.
Went on the Norton forums but haven't really been able to get a straight answer,so you might want to keep that in mind. Quite a shame really, looks like Norton is going back to their bloated ways

Not too sure if its worth the switch to be honest. According to the AV comparative, this software seems pretty much on par with most Free antivirus out there if not worse.

Check the AV-Comparative for more analysis (Specifically On-Demand Comparative for February 2011 and Retrospective/Proactive Test for November 2010 )

Hmm... you'll receive a prepaid Visa card if you send in your information within 30 days of purchase, the card may take up to 8 weeks to ship and it expires within 180 days. Might be a good deal for some people (the patient kind), but I've had enough bad experiences to trust mail-in rebate offers.
