    I had been debating getting one of these combos instead of a MyBook (who's performance is bad and they cost 30% more than a bare HDD). this not only gets me a good sized HDD and the external cradle, but bare HDDs are always less than MyBook's and similar setups.

    for me, this means that next time I need to expand storage space, I can just get a bare HDD and safe a lot of money.

    Yes, the bare HDD's are usually cheaper then the MyBooks...I think you will be really happy with the purchase. The had some nice combo deals on the Seagates also. Did you see those? I just thought the Samsung was a nice deal pricewise & for the reliability factor! ;)
