I was browsing the Best Buy site (which I do almost every Sunday) looking for deals and I ran across this one! For $299, it's a 'real' notebook...with a Celeron 585, 2GB RAM, Intel 4500M graphics.

I'd take it over a netbook any day!

I wouldn't. A netbook can get up to 11 hours of battery life. This one probably gets about 1-2 hours (notice how they don't include it on their page so as not to deter customers.) Still a good deal though if you're planning to use it as a desktop replacement or something.

Actually it manages just over 2.5 hours (2:38 on MobileMark 2007), but I understand your POV. A netbook is obviously more portable and most last much longer, but with a number of performance and convenience drawbacks. If I simply needed a laptop for $300, this is the one I'd get...but not if I wanted more than a few hours of battery life.

does anyone know if it has international warranty (in particular for Australia) ?

I've just realised why noone answered my post so far.
Cause it is 2am in Chicago (city where I lived for some time).

I don't know but my guess, and I'm pretty sure I'm correct on this-If you buy in The US, you can only use the warranty in the US.
Call BB to find out because it's not very possible I'm wrong :p

I just bought this one for a spare typing terminal at work, to input client records. I was very surprised to find that it could run an AVG scan in the background while at the same time running netflix in full screen. It is really not bad for a basic computer. Still in stock at several of my local Best Buys. Would be a decent choice for a young kid, Grandma, or as a backup computer. However, if it is for your main computer and you can afford it, get one with a dual core.

edit: It also has 3 USB ports, a media card reader, express port 34/54, 2G ram,160GB HD, & vista basic (no upgrade to win7 possible).
