Fry's is selling this entry-level 15.4" AMD Puma notebook from Toshiba with 1GB DDR2 800, 120GB HD, 1.9GHz Athlon X2 CPU, & Radeon HD3100 IGP for $399.99. Deal appears to be in-store only.

Nice deal. Is HD3100 also considered Puma?

the same question is asked here: link. But never answered.

My understanding is that the HD3100 is just a down-clocked HD3200, i.e., 780G northbridge, so I believe that would make it a Puma product. I've noticed that Toshiba is the only vendor offering the HD3100, which leads me to believe that they negotiated a special discount deal from AMD, but for business reasons had to downclock and label the slower part HD3100.

heres an article describing the differences between the 780g 780v

    http://www.digit-life.com/articles3/mainboard/amd-780-740-chipsets-p2.html

it seems the 780v is running at around 350mhz while the 780g is around 500mhz(although this is a non issue since the 780v can be overclocked, supposely to 950mhz). 780v is missing the uvd hd decoder too.

honestly this is a great deal. im thinking about heading to frys and picking on up myself

heres the toshiba tech spec for it. http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/satellite/L300/L305D-S5869
