VAIO VGN-41M audio/sound problem with WinXP:
Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC CXD 9872

    HI WORLD!
I recently downgraded my Vista VAIO to XP Vaio (clever ha?). So i faced a few problems but the audio is the wors one.
Those f***i*g Sigmatel audio chip - instead of common Intel (!). So other drivers more or less functioning (FN key?),
    and Audio - the nightmare.

    So - download and install:
    1. MS hotfix KB835221 (find SP26334.exe but not for HP!) - 19.782kb
    2. MS hotfix KB888111 -667kb
    3. STDAUD-01108005-UN -5.092kb
    4. try Realtek audio driver: R114282.exe -6.286kb, or original Vista/Xp Audio Sgmatel driver

    good hunt and
Good Luck! Vaio - Ok hardware, lousy support!
