Beware-these drives are infamously known to be shipped with misaligned drives which leads to low low low transfer rates. U shud align the drive before use. Other important info - this is a green drive (Aka a slow drive), there's no on/off switch, comes with only 1 year warranty (buy an oem drive and it'll come with 3 or 5 yrs). All in all, u get what u pay for.

To be fair though, one can't exactly buy a OEM external hard drive, while one could buy a standard OEM model drive and place it in a external drive case, some people aren't comfortable with that.

This gives a good overview of the technology: http://www.anandtech.com/print/2888

While the "Advanced Format" drives can benefit from greater reliability and the ability to store data more densely on the disk, it can result in performance issues if the drive is improperly aligned especially on systems prior to Windows Vista. Windows Vista and 7 have been designed with the 4K drive in mind, but some older drive tools like some partitioning software may have not been upgraded to support the 4K drive type.
