Western Digital must be getting out of the SSD business (though one can argue they weren't much into it in the first place). Either that, or Newegg has had stock of these drives forever and just wants to move them.
Regardless, this deal will net you a SSD for less than $1/gigabyte. IIRC, this drive uses the 2nd-generation JMicron controller that's found in the Kingston SSDNow V-Series (not V+ or V100). The advantage here is that you get the backing of Western Digital's terrific warranty.
If you're in the market for a high-capacity SSD, this one is certainly worth a look.

10AM to 1PM, Psygn. Hah. I should be awake during that time, so hopefully I can cop one.
How would this compare to, say, an Intel G2? -

AnandTech - Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue Review: WD Enters the Consumer SSD Market
Performs pretty bad compared to most SSD. Regardless, I'm still interested in it if only for the capacity. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, despite the fact that it's not the best, it's still an SSD, and in general I prefer capacity over sheer speed.

How will this SSD compare to a traditional 500 GB sata II 5400 RPM hd? Like the stock one in my Acer Laptop?
Thanks! -
It will be better than any hard drive, especially a 5400 RPM one. I have no money but I'm getting one of these for my desktop anyways - I'm currently running Windows off of a 5400 RPM 1tb drive. I'll put the OS on it and still have room left over for SSD caching as soon as I upgrade to Z68 or someone releases hacked drivers to make it work with my current mobo.

You know these are going to sell like hotcakes.
Snagged one (I think). I don't have the money either, but I know at minimum can make my money back on it even if I sell it slightly used. Can probably sell it new for $350-$400 easy and profit! $$$ -
I understand that it will be better but how much better? Noticeably better? Will apps run much faster and file transfers be noticeably quicker?
Also the power consumption appears to be quite high at 0.6W idle and 2W/3.5W read and write consumption. How does this compare to normal laptop hard drives?
Thanks -
They must have had only one...I added it to my cart and by the time I clicked checkout it was sold out....

I grabbed one. Couldn't resist at this price. Anyone else?
edit: Yeah, I knew I'd be up against the flipping slick dealers, so I was ready with my finger on the button at 12:59EST. Psyched I finally got in on one of these awesome deals. -

Yeahh
none left!

Here's a review vs. desktop hard drives, and it's better overall, even 4k which is most important:

I got one, confirmed...

I know it's not the blazingest SSD out there, but I need the space and I'm coming from a 5400RPM drive, so I'm excited. -
I'll probably resell mine. Figure $200, sell for $400, and buy a Samsung 470 256GB with that money. End up costing me $250 for the better SSD when all is said and done.
But I agree, it should have been limit 1. If I was thinking though I should have bought several. But I just clicked add to cart and checkout because didn't want to miss out. -

Sell yours ASAP.
For me the $200 for a nice upgrade over my HDD that will last me until SSDs bottom out (if it ever happens!) was the best outcome. I always miss these deals by seconds, so I'm really jazzed I finally got in on one of the better ones. -
I always miss these deals too, just happened to pop in on this one at the last minute. I can make use of it, so if I don't think I can make a decent profit, I'll just keep it.

Oh bother, I missed the deal. Sad face. Hopefully I can score the RAM I want.
-
Sigh. Site was DDoSed by everyone trying to get one of these and I didn't get one.
-
Sold out in 3 minutes, really.
-
too bad i guess!
Hopefully we see some more sweet SSD deals like this in the upcoming months. -
I wonder how many of these will appear on eBay being sold for $300-400 in the next few days? That would have been my plan, if I had thought about it.

How could I miss this!
