I've been holding out to buy a few 60GB SSD's for a few systems, preferably < $50 but what used to be common to get them for $50-$60, now cost $80-90. If anyone comes across decent (please no OCZ version II) 60-64GB SSD's for < $50 it'd be appreciated.

Thanks. But seems lots of users getting BSOD's from these. Sandforce 1222 reliable? I dunno.

I have 3 of those Microcenter SSDs in here, one in my 24/7 HTPC, one in my 2011 Mac Mini, one in a beater laptop. Besides the SF1200, I have a Vertex 3 in my i7 desktop, and OCZ Nocti in my X220T, no problems. The only exception is I have to turn off LPM in the X220T via the registry entries otherwise it freezes randomly, this is not a unique problem as Crucial M4 users also have that problem.

I haven't really had any issues with any Sandforce drives that a FW update didn't fix. Won't hesitate to buy another.

How do you update firmware on these drives? Is it pretty straight forward? I'm thinking of telling this guy I'll buy 3 at $45 (min price) and buy the $10.99 SquareTrade warranty along with it. That will be $56 each, but with 1 yr warranty in case anything goes wrong. I swear that prices have gone UP for the 60-90GB drives, as I used to be able to find them NEW for ~ $1/GB all the time on sale.

If there are known fixes, then I guess I'm ok with that. Two of these will go in my kids' beater netbooks, and while there won't be anything of significance stored on them, downtime will be problematic. The other will go in an HTPC.

On this particular Microcenter drive, I downloaded the ADATA S599 as it is exactly what the MC drive is. It just runs in Windows. It's different for the Vertex 3 and Agility 3 they boot into a Linux environment to update.

Do you have a MC store around you? I bought all of mine open box, 65-70, yes prices fluctuate. You get 2yr warranty buying from MC.

Yep, have one nearby. Maybe will take a look, although online it shows $79.99 each new, $71.96 each open box: Micro Center - Micro Center 64GB SATA II 3.0Gb/s 2.5" G2 Series Solid State Drive (SSD) With SandForce 1222 Controller 122663

Although only 1 open box in stock locally. :(

    Hmm, math:

    $56 x 3 = $168 used with 1 yr sq trade warranty

    $80 x 3 = $240 + $14 tax = $254 new with 2 yr mfr warranty

    $72 x 3 = $216 + $13 tax = $229 open box with ~ 2 yr mfr warranty

The used is looking pretty friendly based on cash alone, and with 1 yr warranty at least I'm covered if it fails. All predicated on if seller agrees to $45.

If you buy one drive from MC you've got your warranty for all 3 drives regardless where you get the other 2 drives from ;) Plus you can pay an extra $10 (think it drops to $7 for the openbox) for their replacement plan, anything goes wrong they'll just give you a store credit.

Are you saying if one fails, I can return any of the others under that same warranty? I think they save the S/N in the system when you buy it.

I bought like 6 of those drives, no SN is on the receipt or system. Even on a video card I bought with the replacement plan. The only thing I've seen with SN on receipts is motherboards and computers.

You might want to buy one from MC first to make sure it works in all your computers. I imagine those open boxes are from those getting the sleep issue and returned them. Every one I bought I updated the FW and never had any issues.

It's been a day and haven't even heard back from the guy. But I might make a trip to MC and buy an open box one and see if it does work. Good idea.

Why would that be fraud? It's an open box product with a 15% restocking fee return policy.

Heck I've even bought stuff from there and said I was troubleshooting issues and they recommended a few more things for me to buy and said bring back whatever you decide not to keep, and they won't charge me restocking fee. Manager gave me his business card in case there were problems.

Besides my intent would be to keep it, unless it doesn't work...

    Should've waited a day. This one's only $50 after rebate. :p

Patriot Torqx 2 PT264GS25SSDR 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Just an FYI, with OCZ rebates, be prepared to wait the full 10-12 weeks before you get paid. With Kingston and Logitech, I've received my checks in as few as 2-3 weeks, but OCZ takes forever and a day.

Damn, missed that one. I would have much preferred that over the OCZ, plus no rebate. Oh well. ETA is 3/5, but I doubt it will remain that cheap.

Yeah, Kingston was great, and surprised when I got my money. Actually an OCZ I did took only six weeks, but I was sure to call once the minimum time was up and ask about it.

    that Torqx is 32GB...

In any case, looks like I bought a day too early. Between that Torqx and Corsair M4... I have been waiting a few weeks for a decent deal, and nothing. Now all of a sudden three deals in a couple days. Meh, whatever.
