I was curious, will there be back to school sales on Dell, HP, Newegg, or Bestbuy? I really want an Inspiron 1520, but as soon as I choose the best graphics card, the price just goes over the roof...

Yea I know Dell will have one, being that I been receiving their magazines for the last 6 years and they always had a Back to School Sale. Their Sales are usually not that low to brag about, so I would check other retail choices too. NewEgg will have Amazing bargains, BestBuy will have yet another Rebate Madness(not a to great).

I predict Dell Inspiron 1520 will go for around $650 -$775 for the 1GB. Seems like the typical Acer specs in a Dell brand. I would recommend looking into Acer and see if you can get better and/or similar specs for the money. Especially if newegg has a good deal on one.

dell always has the back to school sales

they have it during august, though with the wait for notebooks ordered now being aug 8, you might not get the notebook until school actually starts if you wait for the sale

Will the back to school sale offer better deals than anything they normally have, like the current $300 off $1200+ Inspirons or $200 off $1000+ for college students?

Nobody here knows! You will get a lot of opinions but the fact is no one knows. You find these threads before any holiday, check them out and you'll see, no one knows.

I'm afraid you will need to make a decision on your own.

It's a crap shoot. Make your decision and don't look back.

    Sorry.

They historically offer back to school sales. However nobody can say what systems or how much savings will be offerred. I think that is what dferrey is saying. You can seach the forums for past posts from previous years for examples.

Some systems are offerred on the back to school sales, but thier configurations are limited and certain upgrades arent possible unless you build the system from scratch without a back to school offer. Who knows what Dell will do this year. Im waiting to see what kind if any offers come out for the XPS 1330.

I bought my laptop (Dell) two years ago, in early July. I monitored the prices throughout the summer and into Back-to-School sales. The price difference was hardly substantial: I believe DVD-RWs became standard (mine had DVD/CD-RW), so really I would've saved $100 had I bought my laptop later.

The thing with technology is that if you wait for a better deal, you'll be waiting forever.

    This was in Canada, btw.

    yes - tough call

Prices are low right now and plenty of good deals to be had used and new. I always pick a price point and if I find what I want at that price just buy it. Even if it goes on sale or drops {as all computers will anyway} then at least you know you hit your price and can feel good about the purchase. Demand will also rise closer to school as will increased wait times for shipping.
