It's a license for only 1 computer, but you can install it as many times as needed.

XP to Windows 7 upgrade requires a clean install. That means that everything on your hard drive will be wiped off and then the upgrade disk will install Windows 7.

Vista to Windows 7 upgrade does NOT require a clean install unless you are changing architecture as well (32-bit to 64-bit, or vice-versa).

You only get one key, so you can only use it on one computer. You should be able to activate it multiple times on the same computer.

    Let me ask you folks....

Does it make sense to buy this with the intent to use it not now, but in the future? I am happy with Vista on the laptop for now and my desjtop has XP which is fine. But I will probably build a new desktop in 2 years and I don't have any connections to get Windows at a reduced price. Two questions...

1.) Does it make sense to hold on to it for now and use it later for my desktop?

2.) I know that you get only 1 license with it. So lets say I have Vista on my laptop. Can I install Win 7 over the top of it for now, till I build my desktop and then uninstall it and go back to Vista on the laptop, but put it on my desktop when I build it?

Hmmm..Sucks that you can only install it one computer. I was hoping to buy a nice desktop along with a notebook in the future.
