Nice find. But make sure you don't have them for free like me through my University. :D

Wish I'd seen this a month ago when I was equipping myself to go back to
school in the fall after an absence of 25 years. I just bought Office Home
and Student for 130$ and now I see I could have gotten Office Professional
for 90$. Windows 7 Professional for 40$. Unbelievable.

The 29.99 price is for the upgrade edition.

The picture of the box of Windows 7 mentions upgrade in the corner, theultimatesteal website(site they used before the MS student's website) lists it as an upgrade price, and when you add it to the cart, it reads: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade.

Edit: Merged it with an existing thread.

Yeah same here. Always make sure to check with your college or Work(IT dept) before buying software.

Can the $29.99 upgrade be used to upgrade from Vista, or only from Windows 7 Home Premium?

Technically Vista but if you change your product key you should get Windows 7 Pro because Pro is considered an upgrade to Home Premium.
