You know what. I think this is the wrong section of the forum. Please move the thread to the right section. I apologize and didn't realize it until I hit the button....

seems to be competitive in price. Windows Vista Business is a let down, i would expect this machine to have Win 7 of some flavour. This must be an old stock from somewhere.

I might pick one of these up, add an SSD and Win7 :)

Perfect for my needs, can't beat that price on an ultra-portable if you ask me!

Three year warranty too. Seems like a pretty good deal. I don't understand the Vista hate. Win 7 is Vista with a little more polish.

They cancelled my order for being OOS.

On the other hand, if you add the cost of Windows 7 upgrade, RAM and 7200 rpm HDD, it's not much cheaper than a X201 when it's on sale for $950 or less. Except for the warranty (if you need it), not a great deal.

    I think you're just a little bitter. :p

Who needs Windows 7? Vista runs just fine and isn't all that different than Windows 7 anyway. I bought a 2GB stick of memory on ebay for $32 and sold my old 1GB stick for $14.

As for the hard drive, I'd recommend a SSD anyway, which you'd have to do on the X201 too. It's fast and I've tried five or six platter based hard drives in my X200, every single one was noisy due to the thinness the X200. Now, it runs like it's not even on, noise wise that is. I would expect the same of the X201.

I got the 48GB Agility II for $90 after rebate. Pick up a case to put the old drive in for extra storage. So you got the X200, memory upgrade, SSD upgrade and case for the old drive. You're looking at $700-$725 for the total package. That's $200+ less than the X201, not even considering the taxes you'll pay buying from Lenovo, and you'll never see a difference between them in day to day usage. I'd call that a pretty decent deal.

I found Vista extremely unstable, my old laptop (Dell XPS m1330) used to BSOD daily on it. On the other hand, I get free Win7 Pro from my university agreement with M$.

Quickly googling on Amazon, I find 4GB RAM for notebook to be around $150 (Lenovo, not sure which others are "compatibile"), and extra 500GB HD around $80. That totals $835 without tax (unless buy.com doesn't charge them?). Running Vista on 1-2 GB RAM? No thanks. :) Also, kind of bothers me it doesn't have a web cam (or does it?) and a touchpad. :-/

Damn you... :D close to pulling the trigger...

EDIT: Pulled the trigger and ordered. Friend who works @ IBM pushed me over the line ^^. Also getting an SSD + 2GB memory extra thanks to him -.-. Anyone have extra for sale? :D

I guess you got a decent deal. About the OP, that is/was a good deal, about the OS, it would be up to how you end up using the laptop. Vista is just fine for most average users.

Yeah I think it's a nice deal. X201 with 3 year warranty is around $1100-$1300, depending on available coupons. :) And that's also without some other upgrades I wanted that would push the price $100 more. This was $650 with taxes. The CPU is surprisingly good + it has a web cam. It also says it has ThinkLight... as I understand its a LED that lights up the keyboard? If that's that it's just what I want - so perfect!

I decided as I can easily upgrade the features I find lacking - RAM, HD and the OS.
