A cursory pricegrabber price check on the seagate 7200.4 500gb drive shows that it's still $107. I remember there was some crazy Dell deal a while back where it was I think $70?

The seagate has been out for 6 months already and the price is still way above $79 on average. So $79 right now is a great deal. Even if in the future this goes to $69 or or $65, I'm fine with it because I got 6 months of having a drive rather than waiting and waiting.

Count me among those who are done with Seagate. I have been so impressed with my Hitachi 5400 rpm 500 gb that I bought this sight unseen at this price. I'm going to predict that my battery life won't even take a hit of more than 5 minutes while my performance will see noticeable gains psychologically, hehe. I still don't know if it's all in my head, but I felt my laptop was faster with a 7200 rpm drive.

For a 2.5", maybe... not for 3.5"s and not even close to SSDs.

$80 is cheap for 500gigs though.

How hot does this thing run, compared to, say, a 320GB/7200RPM Western Digital WD3200BEKT?

About the same or cooler. It won't be hotter than I can say.

Nice timing! I was going to buy the Seagate momentus, but this deal is the cheapest 500gb 7200rpm hdd right now!
