which websites should I keep an eye on?

I always check newegg.com, their prices with a lot of times free shipping seem unbeatable.

any other ideas? I am looking for a drive in the 640GB-750GB range but not in a hurry.

Also a question: I plan to buy a RAID enclosure with 2 drives. do they have to be the same size? I was planning on using a bigger and a smaller one.

You can not have a raid array with 2 separate size drives.

that's not entirely correct..... You can use unRaid or RaidFlex (i.e. modded raid levels) which supports using a mixture of sizes

Ok, ideally you have to have raid with all the same size, cache, and speed.

I thought so. is there a place where they sell bulk and I can buy two at a lower price? Also, will I need data and power cables for the HDD or do they come with the enclosure usually?

As you said, Newegg is always a good place to go for good deals on computer hardware. It's ironic that you're looking for a good deal on 3.5" internal HDD's, as Newegg is offering 10% off (maximum discount of $10 total) on all their hard drives today. Use coupon code, "EMCHDD10" at checkout.

If you buy the OEM versions, you will enjoy a lower price per unit, but you will not get any cables, documentation, etc. If you go the retail version route, you pay a higher markup, but you'll get the documentation and cabling with the hard drive.
