Does anyone know if it is possible to get some kind of discount by ordering at a local dell kiosk? I have read somewhere in the forums that you could get good deals by ordering on phone multiple times until you get a rep that's willing to give you a good price. lol will it work to bargain with the reps at the kiosk?? :)

Dell already has a $350 coupon online. You're not going to get a better deal than that at their kiosks.

I've heard of this too, that the people at the Dell kiosks have the authority to be able to make special deals above and beyond what you could normally get. Only way to find out though would be to go to one and ask.

I talked to a dell rep at a kiosk this morning. He claimed that he or any other dell rep is NOT authorized to give you any discounts at all, reason being that they produce these laptops at cost (suuuure you do). I told him that I just got offered a $100 discount by talking to a guy on the phone the night before, and he claimed that he wasn't allowed to do that. So in my case, no luck. Then again, might be because I'm in Canada. We get the shafts on the deals and the reps. :(

Most retailers and resellers actually do sell laptops at or below cost. Selling laptops is not the moneymaker. Instead, they make most of their margin on warranties, accessories, and add-ons, like the ridiculous amounts they charge for RAM upgrades.

Yea, like getting 4gb of RAM on a dell laptop would cost an additional $850 where if you just buy em yourself it'll cost closer to $200.

Work out the best price you can get online and print everything out. Take in the paperwork to the kiosk and start working on the same build there, when you get everything entered in, then you can just say "Well, I can get this same price and deal online, so I will just go order it from home" and show them the papers. The kiosk person will likely get you something extra because they know the sale is gone right there is they don't beat it. If Dell wants to make the kiosks work like buying a used car, then you can play the game too.
