At 119$ you can get the 320/5400 which is equally fast and better on battery life, not to mention 60% more disk space.
Still, a nice deal. -
I'm sure you know alot more then I do about HD's but 7,200 rpm's is alot faster then 5,400 rpm's the last time I looked
So how could they be equally fast? -
In benchmarks they show up in close read/write speeds.
Remember, density has a lot to do when doing that.
Granted, random access is faster for a 7200rpm drive, but appart from that , a 320 GB 5400 offers more benefits...
I can`t use the search to show you a benchmark between a 200Gb 3200 rpm one and a 320/5400, but trust me, they`re VERY close in performance. -
I'll take your word for it.
Thanks! -
Well the 200GB 7200RPM drive is a bit older than the 320GB 5400RPM drive. It's like comparing the older Raptors and the newer 1TB 7200RPM drives. The 200GB 7200RPM drive still beats out the 320GB 5400RPM in access times which makes a difference in loading Windows and games. The higher areal density almost matches the read/write speeds but other than that, the temperature, noise level, and power consumption are actually almost equal for most drives. There are exceptions of course, but you really have to compare specific models. Tomshardware has a pretty detailed comparison of several 2.5" models under their Charts section.
hard drive sales 200GB 7200rpm for $107 AR and more
